Need help getting my landline turned off.

Hello.

I cancelled all my sky products as I am moving to a house that already has all the same products that I can use.

The problem I have is that I wanted my landline turned of on Friday 5th may as the new owner moves in that day. I got told by the person I was messaging that this can't be done and I have to wait the full 2 week cancelling period. Surely that can't be right, I can't leave the line open so the new owners could leave me with a big bill. I even got told to take the landline with me to stop the new owners using it. Not sure how I could of done that.

Can anyone point me in the right direction on how to solve this please.

It's correct - 2 weeks notice is required to cancel. I doubt Sky would see a reason to waive the requirement, I'm afraid.

Thanks for the reply.

I understand the two weeks notice. I am happy to pay the landline fees. I have never used the phone as I only have it to get broadband so they are not losing money.

Surely they can just turn it off.

I don't think it's in Sky's 'hands'. It's Openreach that will turn off the line and their lead time for doing the work. You could reduce the risk by asking Sky to bar international calls and calls to premium rate numbers.

Thanks for the replies but does anyone else have any advice on this.

The person on messages said they could of done it but they had already closed my account even though I asked for it at the time of giving permission to close the account.
