This man called my landline number, he said my wifi was being hacked/used by other unauthorised users. This immediately sounded like a scam.

1, He called me on what looks like a mobile number, I don't think a genuine sky tech would do that, he'd use a sky landline would he not?

2, I have not shared any passwords or sensative details with anyone outside the house.

3, I have encountered Indian accent scammers before, wanting me to do an online wi-fi/broadband test, that is of course full of faults, that they will fix for me if / when I grant them remote access to my laptop, but they get you to check your bank account for a insurance refund and then they have what they were after allalong, REMOTE ACCESS TO MY BANK ACCOUNTS TO DIVERT MY MONEY ELSEWHERE.

I am aware of this scam, so if anyone gets a call out of the blue from a "sky technician", hang up & call sky yourself.

This is ascam as Sky would never call you out of the blue like they do not actively monitor our lines and I doubt very much they would know who is or isn't using our Wi-Fi so you did the right thing in hanging up. If you have Sky Talk Shield enabled in your line then see if you can add the call to your blocked list,
