Yes i get a dial tone on my phone, and yes it is the same line as our broadband.

The reason for my question is that I was wanting to transfer my parents old phone number to my daughters new build house as it has been build on the land that my parents sold for building. When we tried to transfer the number we were told that the original number was on a copper network in a copper box and couldn't be transfered to my daughter because she has a new fibre line.

I live locally to them both and think I am on a copper wire phone line as my house was built in 1982, so wondered if I could transfer their number to a second line in my house.

Assuming you currently have a Sky landline, I don't think it will be possible because Sky won't install a second landline.

Additionally, you mentioned your, parents' old number - if the number is no longer active Sky wouldn't be able to take it over.

Thank you for that info it was very helpful. I used to have 2 phone lines to the house (when we used to need a separate line for dial up internet) but my parents number has been disconnected for a couple of years so it sounds as though it is not recoverable.

thank you for your help.
