Can I keep my existing landline tel number when I switch with sky broadband and their wifi telephone service?

@DirkG Yes your line and number will transfer to Sky as normal. I presume you actually mean their VOIP phone service not wifi telephone service.

I have an elderly friend who thought sky would port his home phone number from BT. He's now signed up and today just realised that they have actually changed his home phone number and now his friends/relatives can't contact him anymore. Is there a department in Sky that O could call with him to resolve that and get his number back?

Sky will port the number if they can, providing a customer asks for it to be ported. If the switch from BT to Sky has been completed, I'm afraid his old number will have been returned to the pool of available numbers.

It isn't automatic. Your friend needed to have requested this when ordering the package. I don't think Sky can do this retrospectively. As far as I know that old number is lost now.

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately, that is the catch. He did request his number to be ported as it's been his home phone nunber for over 50 years. Sky didn't port it and the custimer didn't realise this until someone told him that his number was coming up as unavailable when they tried to call him.

In short the catch is, the customer asked for the number to be ported, Sky didn't and now it's too late. The customer is now stressed because relatives arkind the world won't be able to call him if, God forbid, they needed to in an emergency. I'm now say with him trying to explain to him how he needs to send a text message to blocks of his contacts as he's still using a Nokia phone from the 90's. It's not a great position Sky have left him in and he'll most likely move to a different provider as soon as he can.

That's unfortunate, but to be fair, Sky say they'll port the number if they can. There can be problems with the porting process not least if a customer is coming from, or moving to a digital voice service, rather than the old analogue service.

I do have amoble phone that I some time use but I also have lots of family and friends who still call me on my land line
