Help on a new VOIP phone

Hello – some help please.

I’ve now been moved over to Fibre which is fine but my very old landline phone’s cable does not fit into the router. It probably is time for a new phone but I’m finding it very confusing as to what to get – nothing I look at says VOIP so I’m just not sure what to get or whether they are okay for voip. Can anyone help me please on what to buy – I would want cordless with an answering facility and probably 2 handsets. Any advice greatly appreciated - thanks

@Sewingforfun A Standard corded or Dect phone will work when plugged into the UK Phone port on the back of your hub.

From your post a dect phone base station with 2nd handset would be what you need to look at, some have answering machine facility.

Do a search on the likes of amazon for dect phones.

@Sewingforfun oddly enough, you definitely don't want a VOIP or IP phone. A standard analogue corded or cordless phone is all you need.

If your old phone plugged into a wall socket, it will fit. All you just need to plug it instead into the phone socket at the back of your broadband Hub.

If you're considering a cordless DECT phone, have a look at the Panasonic range. They've always worked well for me.

Hi Mark 39 - thank you! I expected my current old landline phone to work but the cable at the back of the phone does not fit into the UK port on the back of my router - strange I agree - I keep trying it and I keep looking at the instructions in case I've misunderstood them but they seem quite clear - I have two cables at the back of the phone, one is like a microphone cable (or similar) and the other like the one you fit into a phone socket on the wall (and presume this is the one) - but neither will go into the hub port! Or am I supposed to take a cable out of the wall and plug that into the router perhaps? Sorry for all the questions....

Yes, exactly that. Just unplug the cable from the wall socket and plug it straight into the Hub. Both the wall socket and the Hub have standard telephone sockets so it will fit.
