Connection to (old) Bose Cinema Surround Sound system

I want to (if possible as local sound system shop tells me it can't be done) connect out Bose Cinema surround sound system to the Sky Glass TV. The cinema system is about 15 years old and is on AV cables.

Can this be done and if so, what cables do I need and do I need a converter?

@JulieD1 Glass TV only has HDMI inputs with eArc on HDMI2 so your system needs to be able to take HDMI from the TV.

@JulieD1 what model is the bose ? does it have have optical input ?

If so you can get something like a Prozor HDMI Audio Extractor which connects to the E-Arc port on the tv and outputs to optical.

An HDMI audio extractor on the eARC HDMI port outputting to RCA-plug should be viable for simple stereo, but you're not going to get a surround-sound mix over it. As @Anonymous indicates, optical-in on the Bose would give more options if it's there.

@Anonymous yes it has an optical input. It's a Bose AV18 Media Centre. 🤞

The unit I described above should work then I have one on my glass for headphones and works flawlessly you will need an optical cable as well

I'm not sure about that I know that particular model works well not sure about any others maybe Amazon or someone has that model

obviously I'm only expressing my experience with it I can't 100% guarantee it will work for you

is there any reason you need a surround sound system the sound bar built in to the tv is pretty good ?

Try looking on amazon I got an adaptor for scart to hdmi on there for my LG dvd player with surround sound and it works fine

OMG I'm so unhappy to learn this now as I just ordered 65inch TV from sky this is bad news for all Bose customers . Bad move for sky ! Can I cancel my order if I can't connect my £2000 Bose system?

Of course you can cancel @Idanuk Sky will allow that up to 31 days after delivery no questions asked.

However with respect at some point you are going to haveca to update. ARC over HDMI is now over 23 yeas old. Like serial ports on PCs at some point legacy connections like TOS link get omitted due to the cost for the small number of people who need them.

Wait for the pucks to become available as stand alone devices later in the year. Then you can buy an expensive TV to go with your expensive sound system and get your (cheap) Sky TV via the puck.

@Idanuk the point is the vast majority of AV equipment made in recent years will accept a signal over ARC or eARC as those connection support a wider range of high quality audio codecs than the now very old TOS link. You are in a minority still using a system that can't. You can buy an adapter which will connect to HDMI2 on the TV and output to a TOS link connection like this one.

If you do buy a fifferent TV as suggested do check it has a TOS link connection as Sky are not alone in deleting them. The more expensive sets tend to be more likely to still have thst connection. However just like Co-ax and SCART have disapeered optical will folow it at some point.
