Glass and broadband providers

I have glass and BT broadband fibre 1.
Had no choice as a nee build and BT was only choice at the time.
Contract is coming to an end. Am thinking of changing to Sky.
Always have had Sky before now.
Can get a credit to finish BT contract from Sky. As I'm a VIP I have quite a good deal available.
But am wondering if you all have any advice for me regarding this ?
I know there are many if you very tech minded and have more knowledge than me.
Only 2 people. Glass TV. 2 mobiles. Laptop and PC. We don't game.

It's impossible to say. Every telephone exchange is different and everyone lives a different distance from their exchange. Quality of cabling will differ, interference will differ.

If you get a decent speed from BT then the chances are you'll get similar from Sky.

Ask some of your neighbours and see if any of them have Sky Broadband. What's their experience of it been like?

I personally have had Sky Superfast Fibre for about 4 or 5 years and have found it to be excellent. We've only ever had one outage for about 2 hours in that whole time. I get a solid 74Mbps download & 20Mbps upload. We can stream 4K content on 2 or 3 devices at the same time without problem. We have phones, tablets, laptops and various other devies connected via both WiFi and ethernet and rarely, if ever, have problems.

But every household is different.

Hi @Zena5 Sky do offer a refund of cancellation fess up to £100 if you switch to their broadband see https://www.sky.com/help/articles/switching-credit-offer

Sky use Openreach just like BT and assuming your line is on open sale - BT do pay developers for exclusivity on some new builds - then Sky should be able to offer you a service. The router you get is like BTs fairly basic and you may need extra kit to operate Glass over wifi. I find calling Sky vastly better than trying to use the website and make sure you donexactly what thst page tells you about getting the money back as you pay BT then Sky credit you.

Super fast fibre 35 and yes they offer a credit r towards leaving Bt £100. Plus Sky say no charges too.

35Mbps download might be pushing the limits for Glass, certainly for UHD streaming.

You might get away with it as you're a small household without much else to suck up the bandwidth. If you can get faster then I'd recommend that you do.

As @fizzdisco indicates, that's the lowest tier Sky FTTC product, and indicates your address has a poor handback figure. BT may be currently supplying a faster connection, but Sky would cap it at 39Mbs.

@Zena5 Glass needs a reasonably fast but high quality data feed which in some homes like mine requires something more than a freebie router from an isp like BT or Sky. If yours works with BT it should work with Sky but there is a chance it won't.

There's is superfast25 and Ultrafast then gigafast - I guess the Ultrafast might be an idea to get or get super fast and see how that goes - then upgrade / which may be a kerfuffle in the long run. Sometimes at the moment the laptop and PCs go offline as it is.

@Zena5 rather like cars once the top speed is enough getting more is a waste as it is never going to get used. A Glass TV can only use a maximum of roughly 40Mb/s at any time. It really depends on how many people will be usingbthe connection at any one time very few people need a Gigabit connection but like buying a Ferrarri it is great for boasting.

Doubling the external connection speed does not mean the internal speeds will do the same - it doesnt work like that unfortunately.
