Good morning and Happy New Year to everyone!

For around twenty years, I have had the Sky box downstairs connected to my TV upstairs via a very long coaxial cable and it's worked perfectly well as intended, providing me with the ability to watch Sky in my room.

Recently, I installed a Sky Soundbox downstairs and since then, my TV upstairs has been displaying:

This display does not support HDCP.

For some strange reason, this is only happening when the TV downstairs is off; if it's on, then Sky displays upstairs normally as it has done for the past twenty years.

Soon, we will be getting Sky Q and multiroom set up; I'm hoping that this problem will be solved with the new set up. However, that's not happening for over a month and it's annoying not being able to watch Sky upstairs until then.

Just to clarify as well, the TV upstairs is more up to date than the downstairs one, which doesn't have this problem; the downstairs TV is a Sony KDL32CX523BU 32in. Not sure of the exact model number of the one upstairs but it's a Sony Bravia 40in.

Thanks in advance for any help.

If so - that may be your solution for a month

Other thoughts - Have you tried powering off your Sky + box at the mains plug for a minute - so see if that sorts out your message ?

Have you updated the firmware on your upstairs Sony ?

Yes, I can confirm that removing the Soundbox from the equation seems to solve the problem. It is indeed very strange that the Soundbox appears to be causing this problem.

Afternoon@mike+simmonds and thanks for your help so far.

Software update is set to automatic on my Sony upstairs; I also saw an option to update via USB, so I'll look into that later. It's not a Smart TV, connected to the internet so I'm not sure where any automatic software updates can come from.

You're correct - the Soundbox is connected to the Sky Box via HDMI cables. The coaxial cable has nothing whatsoever to do with the Soundbox so I don't know why it's being affected. I don't think I've got any other HDMI cables to try.

This is usually a download of a zip file from the internet, it unzipped on to a newly formatted USB stick

but do check the Sony and instructions really carefully

Hi @mike+simmonds,

What do you make of the fact this only seems to happen when the TV downstairs is on standby? If it's actually on, then there is no problem. That tells me it's nothing to do with my upstairs Sony's firmware and I'm a bit wary messing around with that. Either way I hope Sky Q solves this annoyance.
