just trying to get termination fee but can t get through to anyone. Also was on messenger he said i cant cancel so what happens if circumstances change your stuck with paying monthly.

@Pesser You're not addressing Sky we are all customers here.

If you've already been onto Sky and advised you can't cancel dur to you being in contract the forum can't override this.

@PesserThat is evil as Sky always used to allow people to cancel early for a fee (expensive)

But if you look at the contract you agreed too there is actually no get out clause.

I do not believe I would agree to another contract with Sky now they are enforcing this, what if someone moves to somewhere they can't get Sky.

"Your Sky Q subscription package has a minimum term (usually 18 months) and you cannot cancel your
subscription during the minimum term unless you have a contractual right to do so. If we end the subscription
early in circumstances where you have breached your contract or are at fault (as explained further in condition
14.7) you will have to pay an early termination charge. Where you have a contractual right to end the
subscription early you won’t have to pay an early termination charge. For more information about these charges

@bob1234 But surely that's the whole point of a contract. Sky discount the monthly payment on the basis that they know they are getting 18 of those monthly payments. It wouldn't make sense for them to make it easy for a customer to get out of the contract.

Even using your example of moving to somewhere that can't get Sky, this 'reason' could be used by anyone wanting to break the contract unless Sky put resources in place getting proof of said move.

@oj01My point is that regardless of the contract details Sky have allowed early termination for a fee, I am not sure it was any cheaper than continuing to pay monthly until the contract ended but it was an option.

People have posted where they have used Sky home move and found there was no where at their new premises that a dish could be fixed and they have had to pay an early termination fee not carry on monthly payments.

The examples given in the link which @Daniel0210 posted above suggest it was somewhat cheaper.

How are early termination charges calculated?

We take the monthly charge for products you have, then deduct:

The business costs we save because we’re no longer providing you with your service(s), and;
A discount for accelerated receipt – a discount reflecting the fact that we receive one lump sum payment, rather than a staggered payment made over the length of your subscription period.

Exactly @oj01 the minimum contract term is 18 months that is simply the terms of the contract the customer has entered into and is enforceable. In practice Sky can vary those terms if they wish so where a customer moves somewhere where they cannot receive the service Sky can if they want release if they want to as has happened in a few cases but the customer cannot require them to do so.

You will see the same rule does not apply to Broadband contracts as the regulator, Ofcom, insist on the freedom to switch.

It is also possible a court could rule otherwise and even decide this term is unfair but in my experience that is hightly unlikely.

Just tried to reduce my sky tv bill due to my financial situation due to the passing off my husband all they could offer me reducing my bill to 37 pounds from 45 pounds but I had to sign up for another 18 months my contract runs out in 2023 so they were not helpful at all so I told them no because it would cost me more in long run as I do not watch sky tv unfortunately it was my account and not my late husband no compassion what so ever

Well, we had 3 Sky engineers out to confirm what we already knew - that the trees that are protected and don't belong to us and can't be trimmed or lopped or felled were preventing a signal to the dish. So they let us cancel for free. Saving over £120 per month. Getting my sports fixes in different ways.
