I have a magic eye for my sky +hd box, works fine with both tellys on but switching off the main tv at night makes the bedroom one stop working and gives the message 'This display does not support HDCP'. Turn the main tv on again and the bedroom one is fine. Any ideas please?

Check that 'HDMI Control over RF' is turned off in your Sky box settings. The setting is either in the Picture menu or the RF tab of the hidden Installer Menu (can't remember which).

Thanks Mark - done that (it's in Pictures) but the same result - the eye works fine until I switch of the main TV then it goes straight to that message. Tried rebooting everythging and retuning the peripheral telly but still the same issue

Try turning off 'HDMI Control' as well ,if it's turned on. Also try turning off both TVs and your Sky box at the plug and waiting for 5 minutes before restarting them.

Done, still get the same message on the TV Eye television of 'this display does not support HDCP' as soon as I turn the main TV to standby. Works fine as long as both televisions are left on!

The only things left I can think of are to make sure that HDMI-CEC is turned off on both TVs, and to check for a firmware update for each TV.

Done that too, still no change, it's got me beaten! Must be something in the way the Sky man set it up yesterday if it works fine with the tv on but says not HDCP when it's on standby. The eye obviously works so it's not that. I'll keep trying, thanks for your help!

Oddly, yes! I lose the picture on the tv that's connected by the HDMI cable obviously but the picture still transmits to the TV eye telly - and this one now doesn't switch to the message HDCP not available when I switch the main tv off.........

I would guess that your TV is causing the HDCP issue as the sky box skips this check when no HDMI cable is inserted

Try turning the TV fully off and do not leave it in standby

Yes! If I turn it off at the wall (no proper off switch on the unit itself) the TV eye television keeps going.

Sorted, thanks very much for your help - Sky in two rooms and another argument for buying a new (bigger) tv.

Followed all the steps kindly laid out through this forum by @Mark39 and have encounted a new issue if I use the IO box and connect to the TV eye by using a number of old Sky cables (already with connectors on the ends) I can plug around 9 of them together, stretch it across the floor to the TV eye and it works fine.

I've then gone and got a coax cable reel, run it around the walls more tidily and connected it the same and nothing. No power all all getting through.

It's not a crack in the middle as I tried different bits off the reel and it's not the length - I've even tried 2 foot pieces of the coax and nothing is getting through. Reattach the old sky cable and it's fine.

Are there different types of coax I should be using?

Thanks,

Peter

@santos2dog several possibilities if the power LED on the magic eye isn't lit.

1. there's a break somewhere in the stiff inner wire of the coax. If the connectors at either end aren't prefitted to the cable, it's most likely that the inner wire isn't making good contact with the centre pin of one or both connectors.

2. The inner wire and outer braid are shorted - that can happen if a stray strand of the braid comes into contact with the centre pin or wire. Or if the cable is bent too sharply somewhere along its length.

3. (Unlikely) The cable is very thin and attenuates the current from the IO Link so much that it no longer powers it.
