You could call Sky and explain and they may send you another. It might be easier to go down the route of "the card got lost during the move", this would have the added effect of the existing card being canceled, meaning your ex would lose her Sky.

Getting your own replacement box shouldn't be a problem, make sure you get a DRX890 or DRX895 model..

However, does your new home have an existing Sky dish and (more importantly) cabling? If not, the engineer won't be able to enter your property to drill the holes required for the cables.

Hi there.

After a break up, I have recently moved house and have transfered the Sky to my new address, engineer is coming on Tuesday to install dish etc, activation scheduled for next day.

Unfortunately my ex is refusing to give me the old Sky+ box and router from the old house. If I just buy my own box (e.g eBay) and router and just plug them in should it work OK? Would I also need to get a new card to insert into the box? And would I need to have these before the engineer turns up to install?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

Thank you for the reply, very much appreciate the advice.

Re the engineer, that's been discussed and I can drill the hole for the cable myself from the inside while the engineer is outside.

My ex won't be using Sky, so won't need the card or equipment, she's just being difficult.

Re the card, I'll contact Sky about that. Do you know if that comes at a cost? I haven't had to pay for any of the switchover (except now new boxes) so can cope with a charge for that.

And final question, any recommendations for a decent but budget router?

Sorry for more questions but this is quicker than waiting on the phone to Sky today.

Thanks again. I feel less stressed already.

Think I've read that customers aren't permitted to use the engineers drill.

Not sure about a cost for a card, but more likely a charge for "my ex won't give it back" than "it got lost in the move" I would have thought. Sky won't know that you're using a different box.

Can't help with router, not my thing. Hopefully, someone else will jump in.

1. Which of these broadband Hubs is installed in your old home

2. Does the broadband service at your new home include internet calls, also known as Sky VOIP?

Hi @Mark39

I had the Sky hub, and if VOIP is the same as WiFi calling via the mobiles then yes we had that before, and Sky said everything would stay the same. If not then I don't know.

I worked for Openworld 20yrs ago but I'm afraid most of that knowledge has either faded or is irrelevant now.
