Tv turning itself on

My Samsung tv keeps turning itself on at night after I got Sky Q. How do I resolve this? Thanks.

@Ayo77It could be the HDMI (CEC) control either in the Q box or your TV you could try turning one or both off.

Hi @Ayo77 Make sure that both your TV and SKYQ box are put on standby before you go to bed.

Hi @Ayo77

I'm guessing that as your Sky

box reboots every night it is turning on your TV

If you go on your Sky box to

settings

setup

audio visual

HDMI control and turn it off

see if that does the trick

This happened to me a few times until I found out what was causing the problem. At night I turn off both the TV and Q box, e.g. into standbay as normal. I found that if I accidentally turned off the TV but not the Q box then when the Q box rebooted itself after Eco mode it then automatically started up the TV up. In other words it was down to not setting the Q box into standby. Now I diligently make sure the Q box is in standby and have never had a problem since.

Hi @mike+simmonds If both the TV and SKYQ box are on standby, when the SKYQ box auto reboots, it should not wake the TV when HDMI control is on!

It will only do this if the SKYQ box was on (green light) and not on standby when it auto rebooted.

Viewing the forums it's clear though that a number of people don't put their box into standby at night

I also read someone else's very good point,( maybe it was @bob1234 ?) that by leaving your box on it continually records whatever channel it was left on

Whilst on the topic of "standby" it also seems evident that other users switch off the Q box at the mains at night. I know a person (not on here) who switches off every plug in the house other than the fridge at night - it's a "thing" 🙂

@mike+simmonds Not me but a good point, I don't know how long it records for but I doubt if it records until the disk is full.

This happened to me last night - very freaky! Can anyone advise me what's the best way to turn the TV off before going to sleep? What's the sequence?

Hi @Kaatarzynaa Press the power button on your SKYQ remote once to put your SKYQ box on standby, and then one longer press say 2 sec to put your TV into standby!

I have been having this problem for the last few days , following advice on the forum I have religiously made sure the SkyQ box is in standby - the Samsung still switches on!

Today the TV has kept switching on every couple of minutes after I have switched it off again. Phoned Sky technical assistance who claim never to have heard of the problem - I remember having it a few years back with Sky Plus. I have power cycled both the Sky Q & the TV to no avail, I will now try a poer cycle on the mini SkyQ, wifi hub & main box again - fingers crossed!

and also turned off the Samsung equivalent (is it called auto power link ?)

Hi. Jumping in this thread. My Panasonic tv does this. Both are on standby when I go to bed and twice it's "updated" through the night but leaves the tv on. I sorry that the message "no hdmi is connected" will cause screen burn as it updates around 2:45am and I don't go downstairs until around 8am. I wish if there was updates that or could just ask you to update when you turn the tv in rather than automatically through the night.

Hi @Lisa88 as suggested in the thread turn your HDMI control to off, should stop the TV from turning on when the SKYQ box reboots/restarts at around 2:45am

Not sure if it would work as we have the hdmi from sky going to sound bar the sound bar feeds all hdmis to the tv. Like a pass through if that makes sense?

@Lisa88 Ive had several different models of panasonic tvs over the years and 3 on the go now (connected to Q and 2 minis) and I have never had this happen.

Whats the model number of your panasonic?

I have recently had my 3 year old Sky Q box replaced and now I have the same problem with my Panasonic TV, it was fine with the old box. I've tried all the standby settings and the only way to solve it is to turn HDMI control off. No biggy but was handy just pushing one button.

We have recently changed to Sky Q and have the same problem with our Samsung TV turning itself on at night, although not every night. (I assume Sky doesn't update every night.) It has never happened with the Samsung TV in the bedroom, though, which is paired with the minibox. Might the age of the TV (11yrs old) have a bearing?

Maybe. But just turn off the HDMI Control in Settings on your Sky Q box connected to that TV. Also turn it off in your TV's settings (sometimes called CEC HDMI).
