A friends sky q box keeps saying signal lost , he's on a communal system , he's had this problem since he joined sky 12 months ago and has had multiple sky engineers around , none have fixed it

you will see in the photos that the error is not constant with the box

Sky engineer checked the building managements ewuipnent and said that was fine , they have swapped the sky q box which did work fine for 36 hours but now he has to unplug box approximately every hour , sometimes take a few unplugs befor it comes back on over about 10 mins

enginneers don't seem to know what's wrong and when he phones sky they just tell him to keep resetting it

this is one reason I'm sticking with my faithful hd box , and belive me if I had a sky q box and it did this , it might be skys equipment but it would be out the window

@atherlon I am guessing the engineers that came out were MDU trained engineers.

I am also guessing that the engineers checked that the Q box was using the correct settings.

You can do that by going into the engineers menu

To enter the engineers menu do the follow
press the home button then scroll down to setting and hi-light
do not press select/enter but press 001 then select this takes you into the engineers menu

then dsetup and check that the LNB type is showing as SCR if it not click on LNB type and change it from wideband to SCR

Sky Q engineer is coming out on Sunday to sort it , so will be back on here next Monday to tell you all he's left it exactly the same 🤪

Sky engineer came today , said all his meters could not detect a fault , but did change sky q box . At weekend there is no access to the satellite cupboard

anyway almost exactly 1 hour after he left it's gone again 😱

@atherlon

Looking at the Vision data sheets, they suggest that their EV5 524 multiswitch would take around 60 mA, and if we assume the Quattro LNB is likely to be taking around 175 mA from what resembles a Vision 18v 2.5A power brick, then that would leave around 2.25 A available to power the three dSCR multiswitches.

But, the specification of a VisionEV5 D6S dSCR mentions a maximum power load of 850 mA and the other two Vision EV5 D8S dSCRs are listed as taking a maximum current of 1.1 A each.

So, if I had been brought in by the IRS owners, I would therefore be very interested in exactly what current was being extracted from that little power brick, which is having to provide power to both the Quattro LNB and all four multiswitches. ( A, B, C, & D )

Then, I would also certainly be taking a very close look at exactly what current was being drawn from any Sky Q receiver that was being fed from the output port of any of these three dSCR multiswitches whilst in SCR mode with multiple User Bands having been instructed to be turned ON by the Sky Q receiver tuners. ( A,C or D )

I would also remove the 75 ohm dummy load that appears to have been screwed onto the 'Power Input' connector socket of dSCR 'D'

Godfrey.
