With Sky and moving home but cant get Sky where i am moving to!!

Anyone had this issue?? I have been with Sky nearly 14 years and am moving. Unfortuantely i have been told that there is no spare "port" in teh exchange where i am moving to and so i cant get sky!!! there is already a dish there but they said that doesnt help! anyone been in this situation??? what do i do????

@Mich+HIf you mean Broadband then you are not dependent on Sky for broadband as any provider will work with Q.

No prob with broadband - I can get that! I can't get sky tv - no port available !

@Mich+H You post is rather confusing as you state no ports in the exchange? Sky TV is delivered by Satellite, exchanges have nothing to do with TV, it's broadband that comes through an exchange.

If there is a communal dish then there should be a cable in the flat to the dish. It could be that the communal system can't be upgraded for Sky Q.

Nope - I am moving to a new build - the developers have put a dish on the roof in anticipation of me getting my sky tv transferred. But I was told I can't get sky as exchange is full where I am moving to

@Mich+H I think your developers are idiots to be honest as already stated an exchange has nothing to do with Satellite TV, that would be for broadband. If the exhange is full then no broadband. If you have your own dish, then no problem at all you can get Sky TV.

I'll also add that people on the forum actually know what they are talking about, developers on the other hand are only good at building houses, anything beyond that they seem to get wrong.

@Mich+HThat sounds like complete rubbish, if the Sky installer can get to the dish to change the LNB and the cable from the dish goes to the Sky Q Box that is all you need for Q apart from broadband.

An exchange does not come into it.

The only problem I can see is if under Sky's H&S rules the dish is too high to reach.

If it's a new build, does it have full fibre? If it does it could be be the developer has gone with an altnet rather than Openreach which could be why Sky are saying they can't provide a service.

As others have said Sky will have no problem providing a TV service as there is a dish already but you will need to find out about the broadband service at your new property.

Yes it's a new build and openreach is available! I am going to call again just in case the lady I spoke to got it wrong??!!

Yes, it's straightforward. You can get Sky Q for TV. There should never be any mention of the exchange.
