Disable Wi-fi mesh on sky Q

please can someone tell me how you can disable the Wi-fi mesh on sky q and sky mini. I still want to keep Wi-fi on the sky router and I need the sky mini to connect to the sky q wirelessly, but not act as an access point.

@Specialbrew there is no way to turn off the wifi hot spot on a Q box without disabling the wifi totally.

Maybe by replacing the Sky Hub with a non-Sky model? Not applicable in this case though.

@TimmyBGood still doesnt work as the hotspots remain on the Q boxes even though there is then no way of connecting to them. It is a pain.

@Specialbrew what is the issue - the hot spots cannot interfere with the Q hub's wifi if that is the worry.

@Chrisee When connected to the sky mesh I cannot use hue lights or Sonos. They only work when connected to the router directly. But as they share the same SSID there is no way of changing the connection. It's a pain...the only way I can connect is to go into the room with the sky router.

@Specialbrew One option would be to split the SSIDs and connect your smart home kit to the 2.4ghz band.

Alternatively if you do not want the Sky Q boxes to work as hotspots then you can go into the installer menu (highlight settings, press 0,0,1,select), go to network and change 2.4ghz wireless to OFF then click confirm. If you do this make sure you leave the 5ghz on so that the boxes can connect to each other.

The best option if it is just to set up your Sonos etc is to split the SSIDs.

You need to connect one Sonos speaker to your router by ethernet so that all your Sonos speakers then come off your wifi and connect to their own Sonosnet.

This will ease your wifi network, as Sonos uses old protocols on WiFi that can slow or stop a network, and should help things to work again.

Sonos Version 1 will ONLY work on 2.4Ghz. So if you have the older legacy set-up, you need to make sure all the speakers are connected to the router's 2.4Ghz WiFi output and that your smart phone app is connected to the same network.

Go down to settings in the menu and press 001 enter. Or if you change the ssid of the router the boxes won't act as extenders

You could change the SSID on the router then the Qboxes won't extend

If you change the SSID the sky Q boxes wouldn't connect so essentially the only thing that would work is the sky signal, which then makes the whole point of sky Q pointless and not worth having.

Hello all. I realise l'm a bit late to this party, but does anyone know if I was to connect both my sky Q main box and my mini box to my sky SR203 router using power line adapters, and disable the 2.4 & 5Ghz WiFi on both boxes, would everything still work? And would I then only see the one network on Wi-Fi analyser as opposed to the 3 I currently see?

@jry yes everything should still work

If you turn off 2.4 and 5Ghz on both the main and mini then yes you should only see the one network from your router

@Laing1. Blimey, that was quick response! Many thanks for your reply and I will give it bash. I was a little confused as I had watched a YouTube video of someone doing this very thing, but when they went into the hidden menu on their mini box they had power line and Ethernet options as well as the 2.4 & 5Ghz Wi-Fi options, but I only have the 2 Wi-Fi options and wondered if turning both off would screw up the whole system.

I have Hue lights. I had the 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz seperated via the router and had no problem. I wanted to make sure the devices I wanted on the 5Ghz were on the 5Ghz. Worked no problem.

@jry when Sky Q was first released the idea was it could be connected by wifi ethernet and in built powerline. Sky never officially activated the powerline option even though it worked and in a later software update removed the option altogether
