Can I block future SkyQ updates?

There may not be any of course but given that Q170 finally brought me mostly glitch-free TV for the first time in two years, I really don't want to risk another update. Would setting standby mode to None block any updates?

No, they will happen automatically anyway when you use the box.

Darn it. But they've been rolling some folk (old incompatible hardware) back from Q170 so I can ask for a rollback from Q180 if it breaks anything.

@Q-tips Not sure there is a mechanism for that scenario, most updates are trouble free and as you already know if it's a big enough issue Sky would rollback the updates anyway.

@Q-tips afraid not Sky only roll back if they can see a major problem not if 1 person or a few have a problem as with Q170 they saw there could be a problem with all the V1 boxes

No-one gets hurt by a rollback so I don't know why they can't offer it publicly via their website - or within the Q set-up. Otherwise, if they do mess me up again, I'll be outta here.

Although can't roll back updates if you don't want to receive any the only way is to turn the boxes off overnight.

Remember the T&C's you agreed to with regards to updates.

"Allow us SHS or SSSL to update the software in the loaned equipment by sending signals to it. You must not tamper with the software in the loaned equipment or allow anyone else to do so."

if you turn the box off overnight won't that stop the viewing card from getting the keep alive signal?

Yup, no way to stop the updates.

Thing is, even if one is a bit troublesome, Sky will eventually fix it with a future update, anyway. Don't worry about it and just enjoy Sky Q.

As a general point about how Sky update the firmware on Q and their other products it is always an automatic process controlled by Sky with no customer input. Firmware updates happen in batches of units selected by serial numbers usually around 2am. If a box is unpowered when the update is triggered the box will miss the update which will be attempted at different times so can interupt viewing.

Once Sky are satisfied that the update is not causing issues they update the DIsaster Recovery Stream that the boxes access when the user clicks on the "update software" option. Sky can order a box or batches of boxes to revert to an earlier version but the user can't and customer services cannot request a reversion for a specific box for a customer.

Boxes coming from the warehouse are frequently running older firmware and need to be updated when installed as otherwise they can have issues with services which assume a certain version is running.
