Sky Q 1 TB box teething problems

Hi all, had a free upgrade from Sky+HD to Sky Q as part of VIP. One thing I've found is there is no light showing when downloading? I'm sure an upgrade box wouldn't have missed that? It also says in Settings>Preferences it is HD and not UHD? Just wondering if this is a cheaper version of Sky Q box. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Hi @cdubb Unfortunately that is what you get with a "free" upgrade. It would have been worth paying a few pounds to get the latest technology. You should be able to swap your box for a 1TB UHD box for about £25. You need to telephone Sky.

Remember it's not your box. It is loaned to you by Sky - they can give you whatever version they like.

There may be an 'admin' cost involved swapping to a newer spec box though. (But you still don't own it)

hi @cdubb yes they do seem to have been issuing the older 1TB non UHD boxes to cutsomers taking a free (or subsidised) upgrade from SKY HD

The box type in question per that link is 32Cxxx

In addition to not being UHD that box also can only support 1 active mini and less concurrent recordings

I do wish this was made clear to those upgrading

P.S. I don't think there is any light that shows during downloads - I admit my box is out of sight so any lights used are not my area of knowledge.

Thanks for your comments. I phoned up sky tech to ask about changing to the UHD box like suggested. The box is free (but not owned by me), the charge for installing £90. Are any of you guys running the Sky Q box UHD? What was your upgrade like?

hi @cdubb as you already have SKY Q installed you shouldn't need an engineer visit -many people (although not myself yet) have done a 'self install'

A self install upgrade should only cost £25 for the 1TB UHD/HDR box & £50 for the 2TB

Somebody may come onto this discussion and give more info but if you search the discussions you should find quite a bit of info

Unfortunately the search on here doesn't work as it should so you have to go with single word searches really - although you get a few ahead I think there a couple of useful discussions if you search for DPD (the courier who bring the boxes and take the old one back at the same time)

I did the self-install 2TB v3 Q box and it was £50. It was very easy to do.

After I spoke to Sky and ordered the new 2TB box, i was told to keep the viewing card and return the old box when the new one arrived. I received the new box the next day. I kept the HDMI cable and power cord and gave the old box to the driver. It was very easy. Then I installed the new box and paired the remote and viewing card.

After that it was a matter of setting the series links/recordings and starting the downloads to replace most of what was on the old box.

On my V2 box, the record light comes on when a programme is downloading.

I have a 32B2XX box and the red record light comes on also, when downloading a programme.

Hi all, thanks for help guys. I received new Qbox today after following what you said. All seems good, it's the 32B2XX as was mentioned in comments. The red recording light comes on when recording so we're ok.
