Sky signal being blocked by large tree.

Hi, I am no longer able to watch all my Sky Channels because of a large tree blocking the signal to the Sky Dish. This has been a problem for a few years now, but is much worse this year, possibly because of the poorer weather conditions. Can someone from Sky tell me if you will be moving to Fibre Optic Cable any time soon. Because if not I will seriously have to think about moving to Virgin. I look forward to all responces. @Faitha If you mean will Sky be moving Sky Q to an online system, then the answer currently is no one knows.

Also you should be awre Sky won't respond to your post nor will they even divulge any future plans via a forum post.

If the Trees are causing an issue then apart from chopping the trees down or moving your dish, if possible, then you may need to go to VM as your only solution.

If Sky are unable to give some meaningful assistance then yes, I will be switching to Virgin Media.

@Faitha You're asking for assistance from Sky, Sky can move your dish to prevent the trees from affecting the signal, however it will depend on where else it can be sited, the sad fact is trees grow and despite Sky being a huge business they cannot stop nature.

Have you rang sky to see if they could send an engineer, worse case scenario is there is no other suitable location to put your dish.

Until Sky release any news on having Sky Q via broadband, then your options are limited.

@Faitha In fairness you haven't asked Sky to help yet. They may be able to relocate the dish providing it still has the required line of sight.

Two choices really, remove the tree or move the dish(if either is possible). 👍 if dish re location is not possible, If I were you and Virgin is an option, then that might be the easier route.

Just to clarify my situation, my Sky Dish cannot be moved to another location as the tree in question is both tall & wide, even trimming the tree would'nt solve the problem. Also, I'm aware that nature does what nature does and i'm in no way blaming Sky for that. I had recently read somewhere that Sky was currently considering moving to cable, and I was trying to find out if this was correct and if so when would it start. However, if Sky are not keen to give out information about this, then my only option is to move to Virgin, which I'm not very keen to do.

@Faithabefore Sky was bought by Comcast it was on the plans and featured in the shareholders report however nothing has been heard for a number of years, I don't know if the idea has been dropped or Sky are still working on it.

@Faitha Do you have a garden ?... If so, if the tree is blocking all dish mounting options on your house, then the dish could be pole mounted in the garden as some people occasionally do. See example below...

While Sky has 'dishless' (internet only) products in Europe marketed usin the Q branding, they are essentiallyjust NowTV, so do not have either UHD or recording functionality.

Worth noting that Virgin is not a 'Fibre Optic Cable' company: their network is primarily coaxial copper and they do not use Openreach FTTP.
