It will soon be time for subscription charges to increase. Would it not be a good gesture if Sky dropped the subscription charges for watching in HD.

Yes it would but Sky have never revealed why they will not do this but part of the reason could well because some customers are SD customers only so if the price was added to the existing packages then they would be part paying for something they did not want.

They could drop it, but since it's quite lucrative I'd imagine it will be added in somewhere else unfortunately.

Absolutely right. It's a source of income for Sky. If they dropped the HD charge, the income it generates would almost certainlybe made up elsewhere, most likely by increasing the price of the base tv package (currently Signature). Not very fair on those who don't want HD.

It does seem time for HD to be the standard I suppose, like you say it will not please everyone.

Not sure but I expect some content is only available in SD?
