How to jump back 24 hours

We had Sky Q installed on Saturday so I'm new to all this.

The engineer showed us how to jump backward and forward 24 hours on the TV guide but now I can only get it to jump forward, the rewind option will only take me back as far as when I turned the most recent programme on.

Not sure what I'm doing wrong - I've been through the help guides but couldn't find the answer to my problem.

You're getting mixed up. You can't rewind further back than when you turned the Sky Q box on, or further back than when you tuned to that channel, because your box wasn't recording live TV on that channel before then...

In the TV guide, when you press fast forward, the guide goes toward 24 hours so you can see listings 24 hours ahead. Pressing rewind goes back 24 hours. You can't go back beyond today in the TV guide.

Going 'backwards in time' is something of a trick that Freeview Play appears to achieve, but it is really using its EPG to access catchup content for download: it's not actually possible for any broadcast system to record even a fraction of all the content being transmitted to permit that kind of time-shifting.

Thanks, that's helpful and makes sense, but when I press rewind nothing happens at all. It doesn't show me the previous 24 hours, but fast forward does work.

Are you sure you're actually pressing rewind? And make sure you're not pressing it when you're on today's TV listings as you can't go back further than today.

To test it, jump forward a few days, then press rewind and you'll jump back one day.
