Sky mini box pixallation

I have been on here previously as I am still getting pixallation on my sky q mini box.not all the time I have bt broadband. Can anyone recommend a WiFi extender for this issue? Would it help. I need a wireless one as my mini box is not near my main plug point unless I get a long ethernet cable

hi @clare198034

as you are with BT then the SKY Q boxes don;t use your home wifi instead they use a wifi network generated by your main box.

Thus I don't think you an add 3rd part boosters/ extenders & I think you would need SKY specific booster

A booster may cure your problem but there is a risk it won't.

Linking the mini box to your main box via ethernet is likely to be more reliabel (alternatively linking both mini & main via ethernet to your router or a switch) but I know that may not be feasible

Others here are better to advise on the booster needed

Ok thank you my sisters does it as well seems strange maybe there are other people that have tge same issue I will leave it as it is if there is no cure

I only said that a booster may not cure your problem - not that there is no cure.

There are some things that you can try without a booster,

Try making sure that both boxes are clear of any thing that may block or interfere with the signal between them - moving one or the other or both just a small amount may improve things.

If either are in cupboards or surounded by other equipement trying to move them may improve matters. Alternatively, if possible, move other equipement that may cause interference away from them

I had initial problems with connectivity when I first got my SKY Q main & mini - I found that moving my mini from on top of other equipement to be on it's own small shelf to one side of the other equipment has provided me with a very stable connection that rarely has had problems.over 4 years

Ok my mini box is right next to the television but had it checked by sky and they said all was ok? I have a cordless phone in the room as well and said it was ok? The bedroom sits directly on top of the living room downstairs where the hub is.

hi @clare198034 do try moving things by only a few inches as you may find it makes a difference.

What 'should' be ok and is optimum can be small differences when wifi is concerned.

My mini is also in my bedroom above my lounge - the move I mentioned of the mini to the small shelf by the side of my other equipement did mean mean it was also closer to being more directly above my main.

Moving the boxes may not give any benefits- it could even make things worse but equally you may find it clears your problems .

A bit of trial & error may be worth the effort

I will try and move my mini box onto the cupboard next to it and move my cordless phone a bit as well

@clare198034Your cordless phone could well be the problem as they cause all sorts of problems.

While no one can tell if a Q booster will cure the problem it would do no harm to talk to Sky, they will supply one free if they think it is needed, they may even install it.

My sister had a cordless phone near the Sky Q box and caused all sort of problems, as @bob1234 mentions. She disconnected said phone (she never used it) and had no problems since

Do you think it is wifi interferance rather than something wrong with the mini box? Do cordless phones have a different chanel that do not interfere with the sky q mini box

How holiday should I have the sky q mini box up I have a wooden clothes ottomanthat I use I could stand it on there but it will be a bit lower than were it was. The cordless phone will be about two foot away from it.
