Main box in living room. Mini in kitchen diner, mini in bedroom.

Too often, for no discernible reason, there is an issue with one of the minis. Main box working find this morning and bedroom box, but box in kitchen turned on to show "technical error". Then reboot brings "network proximity error" then it says it's "not connected to the internet", then it says there is an "issue with the activation server" please try later.

all boxes are on wired connections.

sometimes main box randomly claims for a few minutes that it is no internet connection but when I do a speed test on my phone there clearly is a connection.

Also, WiFi speed test in my phone can show 50 mbps but when I run the Speedtest on the sky q box in Netflix it will say 12 for example.

utterly tiresome. All it does is give me hassle I don't need. Why doesn't it just work? Nothing else connected to the internet (wired or otherwise) has any problems.

Yes, we had an engineer out just this week and main Q box (almost 6 years old) was constantly freezing. That box was replaced which was great so now have an HDR main box.

engineer saw some of this stuff when reconnecting the mini boxes to new box but we got everything running and it was fine for a few days but now the random mini issues have returned.

Yes, the WiFi is turned off on all boxes, and eco mode turned off on all boxes also.

I just think there's a reliability issue with the system. It is a brilliant product, it really is. The flakiness is my only real criticism.

2016/17 it was very flaky but did improve a lot. Recently though, it's giving me too much work.

Then reboot each mini in turn.

On the main box, go to Settings / Setup / Network / Reset, and select Wired Connection.

On the first mini, go to Settings / Setup / Network / Reset, and at step 2 of 4 on screen, DON'T press any WPS buttons when prompted as this will override the ethernet and will try to connect wirelessly again. Instead just let it connect on its own which takes around 30 seconds.

Then do the same for each subsequent mini box.

Then on each box go down to Settings but don't press Select. Instead type 0 0 1 Select to open the hidden menu. From there you can turn off the 2.4ghz and 5ghz wifi on the boxes.

See if going through the process again fully helps to sort it out.

Ok folks, have turned everything off and tried everything again in the recommended order. All running at the moment and have made sure to turn off wireless again on all boxes.

fingers crossed.

one thing still baffles me.

Speedcheck for WiFi on my phone, 40Mbps down.

Netflix speed check on main box - 24Mbps

mini box 1 - 12Mbps

mini box 2 - 12 Mbps

all sky boxes on wired connections. Weird.

@Marvinator wrote:

Netflix speed check on main box - 24Mbps

mini box 1 - 12Mbps

mini box 2 - 12 Mbps

More than enough bandwidth for the maximum resolution of the app on each device (UHD on main box, HD on Mini) so I'd suggest that's by design. My main and Mini are on ethernet from 150Mbs FTTP: when I get the chance I'll have a look at their respective Netflix app speeds. The YouTube app 'stats for nerds' feature may be better for that kind of network speed indication.

Cheers. If it's by design it would be good to know. I have seen above 50 on Netflix speedchecks on occasion.

The Netflix speedcheck on the native app on the Samsung TV is showing 45Mbps over WiFi. I suspect it's Sky's servers.

sometime if I download something that's quite big and popular, say a new episode of Billions in the middle of an afternoon, it will absolute fly in at what must be about 100Mbps going by the size of file and the time.

I have the same issue always freezing ect rung them and all they said is they don't know it is fine. Rediculous when they expect you to pay for things that are constantly faulty and never fixed when you ring them at least once a week about the issue

No NetFlix content or speedtests go anywhere near Sky's servers, so they can't be responsible for your slowdowns.

I've just done the NetFlix speed test on my Ethernet connected mini and get 67.42 Mbps. My VDSL is syncing at 74Mbps, so close enough.

Suggets something odd with your wired network. Can you try moving the Ethernet connection from the Q box to the TV and carrying out a NetFlix speed test?
