Sky Q main box location and cabling

Hi, new Sky Q install in a re-build. Before I plaster just wanting to check best advice on how to install.

I want Tv 1 in diagram to be my main tv. Tv 2 can run off another Sky Q mini.
Do I have to locate the main Sky Q box in the Lounge with that TV...ie..run the 2 Sky q cables from Dish to the machine room(have a service duct) to the Lounge where the main tv is(15metres) or are there better options? In any option do I lose functionality anywhere?

Just trying to resolve before I plaster. Thanks in advance for simple answers....🤭

hi @rscurr I think the main factor is 4K / UHD - only the main box supports 4k/UHD (& HDR)

Obviously for such a long satellite cable length then make sure you get good cable (I think the recommended is Webpro WF100)

Also, the HDMI Cable from the main box to TV for 4K needs to be under 3m ideally (I think you can get away with longer).

If both mini(s) & main are connected via ethernet then location doesn't matter for connectivity

@rscurrWhatever you do don't plaster ANY cables in make sure they are in conduit or trunking, plaster can eat cable and you may need to change it one day, also put a draw string in at the same time so you can run an additional/replacement cable in if needed.

Having the main Q box more than 5 metres over HDMI from the television makes UHD marginal: past 8 metres is essentially impossible using passive cable (no matter what you pay for it, so don't be fooled by the 'premium' products which are essentially snake-oil). At distances greater than that you'd be looking for active HDMI transfer or some other solution such as HDBaseT. Having ethernet to the television set(s) is a good idea, but Q itself can't use that to get a signal to the screen.
