no sound from soundbar

hi,

I have skyq connected to a panasonic tv with hdmi. Optical cable connects skyq with Philips soundbar.

Sound is only heard from the tv speakers.

why is there no sound from the soundbar?

The tv does not have an arc or oprical port. only 1 hdmi.

Check the Optical output settings in Home - Settings - Setup - Audio Visual.

Try the Normal setting for the Optical output

Hi @josh+prior although I have never had a problem with my optical cables ( only have one in use nowadays) if you can I would suggest trying another cable.

I have no personal experience of Soundbars but are there any settings on there that you can check - perhaps you can advise which model

Are you sure that the optical input on the Soundbar has been selected ?

yes I have pressed the optical button on the soundbar remote.

Just to make sure it is not a glitch try rebooting the Q box @josh+prior

To reboot press Standby on your Sky Q remote, then switch off and unplug at the mains.
Wait at least 30 secs and then Plug back in and switch your Sky Q box back on at the mains.
Wait for the on screen instructions to disappear and the front led to turn Amber. Then wait for 30 secs before you press Home on your Sky Q remote.

note: some features may take up to 5 minutes to return.

I have a q mini connected to a tv, I've connected a sound bar to the tv with an aux cable, but the sound only comes from the actual tv, and not the sound bar. Does anyone have any tips as to why this is?

Can you be more precise on an 'aux' cable. I'd take that as a standard 3.5mm audio jack?

If so, in my experience, you have to change TV settings to disable in-built speakers and output as headphones.

What model of TV and soundbar may be helpful...

Sorry I jumped in 1/2 way through the thread, please ignore it.

can you explain the TV connection end a bit more as aux sockets on TVs are often inputs not outputs. You may have to use a headphone socket on the TV if it has one.

Depending on your TV / Sound bar having the mini box plugged into an HDMI socket and the sound bar plugged into the HDMI socket marked ARC is best if you have the right sockets.

You could post details of you TV and Soundbar models and someone may be able to provide better help.

Yes it's the cable you've mentioned. Its a bush sound bar and a technicka tv (Tesco own make)

So the mini is connected via hdmi and I'm trying to connect the sound bar via the input connector on the tv. It's a bush sound bar and a technicka tv (Tesco own make) it's not a smart tv or I'd go for the Bluetooth connection and it won't connect to the q via Bluetooth

@JamieC1991If you are using an input on the TV it will never work, you need an output.

HDMI ARC on your TVis your best bet if both the TV and sound bar have HDMI
