As the title. My Sky Q hub the one with 4 ethernet ports the SR 202 ?, has two options in settings. Gigabit ethernet or Fast ethernet . Does it mater which one ? i have superfast and I get 52mbs at the moment so it was on Gigabit Ethernet. Should I change the setting to Fast Ethernet ?

@1topgazza There is only ever a reason to switch down to fast Ethernet if you are experiencing faults or devices that don't like a gigabit connection.

Regardless of your inbound broadband speed, you will be throttling your internal networks speeds if you limit it to Fast, so I would just leave it at gigabit, assuming you are using Ethernet for devices.

@1topgazza the default speed is gigabit but with an external speed of anything under 100Mb/s it really doesnt matter too much. One oddity about Sky hubs is if you are using old partially wired ethernet cables they will only work with the hub set to Fast Ethernet ie 100Mb/s.

Interesting stuff, thank you. I did switch it to Fast with no noticeable difference on WiFi or Ethernet in the house. WiFi is boosted by the excellent BT Home mesh system

I'll change it back to gigabit

@Chrisee I came across your comment when looking for possible solutions to my PS5 not connecting over LAN. Swapping the cable had it working with my Sky router immediately - I think the router had essentially ignored the device so it wasn't assigning it an IP address (strangely it worked briefly after a router reset, but it didn't last).

I imagine switching to Fast Ethernet would have worked too, but obviously at the cost of speed. So, thank you!

The hub needs all 8 cores connected for gigabit connection if the cable onky came with 4 connected or one is broken nkthing happens. Some routers fall back to fast Ethernet when this happens the Sky hubs dont.
