Router upgrade

I've just renewed my contract to Sky Superfast and I still have the old Hub which I got about 7 years ago.

An article in the Guardian about improving your wifi by upgrading your router started me thinking. Sky won't upgrade my old router unless presumably I pay for Boost but I see you can buy the Q hub or the Q hub 4 SR203 quite cheaply from Amazon etc. Would this be worth it and would there be any problems other than reconnecting any iPads, phones etc?

Using Speedtest I get 72 Mbps with ethernet, 60 Mbps on wifi next to the router, 44 Mbps in the adjacent room downstairs and 28 Mbps in the bedroom upstairs.

What model do you have? Er115/110 or sr102. Normally sky will swap out sr102 for the er115 with the superfast speeds

You should have the er115 dual band hub as standard IMHO with a potential upgrade to broadband boost to get the sr203.

The sr102 is a valid modem router for superfast fttc but lacks the 5ghz for a more stable wifi experience usually required by streaming and games consoles

Thanks for your input. I'll get onto Sky again. I could buy the sr203 on Amazon for £60 though..........

@cavaradossiThe thing about people selling an SR203 is that the router does not belong to them and is only out on loan. Which if Sky wanted to do can blacklist it and so make it nothing more than a doorstop.

hi @cavaradossi @Highlinder i was looking at doing the same thing @cookiemonsteruk had been very helpful yesterday with a simlar query of mine.

so are you saying Amazom shouldnt be selling these? they arent a market place item, its sold by amazon directly.

Highly unlikely you will get faster speeds with a new router, the speeds you are getting at the moment are very good for a Sky router.
