Perhaps I wasnt clear either.

You dont have to be using their WiFi functionality for them to cause issues. I know many Q devices do weird ethernet routing so often if a box goes offline during eco mode it can knock out the whole network, its to do with how the boxes are chained together.

I dont really want to waste my time sitting here trying to explain the oddities that Sky have managed to build into their Q system that literally nobody but a few engineers at Sky probably understand when you could simply change a few settings on your Sky boxes and see if that is the issue. It would literally take you 5mins.

Hi All,

Been having issues over the last several weeks where the WiFi will drop each night.

It's usually between 2:45am and 5:45am.

I've seen a few similar topics and this pointed to the Sky Q boxes WiFi eco mode.

Whilst I do have. Skyq boxes, it's the whole WiFi Network that goes.

I was awake for once tonight when it happened and running a test on the braodbnd from my phone via LTE I noticed that I only had 5 devices connected to my Router. All of these devices were hardwired.

I used one of the PC to connect onto the Router, and my WiFi name had been changed from a custom name I have and a custom password to the default SKY{unique) SSID that was the original one.

I changed both back to my normal SSID and password and all my devices came back.

Has anyone else seen this before where your SSID and passwords are being changed.

I'm not sure at 5:45 if it would have changed back by itself to my SSID or if that's what's been happening fronthe last few weeks.

It just seems odd and a coincidence to me.

@SJGLCL the timing is the same as the timing for the eco mode for your Sky Q tv boxes so check they are set to operate in Active or None in Settings/Preferences/Power saving. The wifi hotspots the boxes produce go down when the TV boxes are in low power mode - power led is red.

Your SSID oddity can be explained if you have unticked the Synchronise button on the Wifi tab on the router and then you may not have renamed both bands. The Q boxes operate better with the bands synchronised they should only be split if you have devices that cannot connect to dual band SSIDs. A simple Wifi analyzer app on a phone will enable you to see all of the various hotspots their strength and channel which makes sorting this stuff muchbeasier.

Well nothing dropped last night, but why would it effect and change an SSID on the Router?

Surely ECO mode shouldn't be changing my SSID and Password on the Router?

It could be an issue with the hotspotting features of the Q boxes, software bugs can be weird, hence why you need to troubleshoot

Nobody said anything about power to the router we are talking about loss of WiFi coverage or an SSID change which yes could be caused by literally anything, it could be software bug at the end of the day.-

They are acting that way though, whether you want them to or not,, and will continue to do so unless you switch their WiFi off completely (which would then require ethernet for Q television use). When Sky is the ISP and there's either a Q or Sky Broadband Hub at the address it's default functionality with no way for a subscriber to modify it.

As for your SSID changing the Sky hub has the ability to change the SSID of the Q boxes & vice versa so that could be the reason for it
