FTTP Install

Hi folks, currently got sky FTTC and upgrading to FTTP ultrafast with sky. Placed order on friday evening and openreach came Saturday. Duct was blocked but they came back Sunday and fitted the fibre which is now coiled up and ready for install. I currently have a SR203 router. During the next phase of install when they fit the ONT what do I need to be aware of and is their anything I need to be prep. Also how long does it normally take and what's the cut over period. Sorry for the questions just want to be prepared.

What is the activation date? Everything should be up and running via 23:59 on date of activation and not much left for you to do. Openreach will connect ont to router and set up 1 device. Only other thing is they send out ethernet cable as conversion kit just in case you think somethings missing

@cookiemonsteruk its 17th june for activation but openreach were so fast at doing the outside work I was surprised to say the least.

Only other thing (at least at the minute) will be the outage in terms of shutting off fttc and fttp activation. Not too long i hope 👍

@cookiemonsteruk many thanks for your advice. My dates just been updated to 21st but no big deal as was getting 60mb down on FTTC anyhow. Also getting rid of a really old telephone connection which the engineer was surprised still worked given its condition.

One thing to do is to reboot the router after it's connected to the ONT mine had problems getting the VoIP configuration until it was rebooted.

Another is to log on to the router and change the Router Mode in Advanced --> WAN Setup from Auto to WANoE. The SR203, when it boots up, first tries to bring up a DSL connection before the WAN connection and occasionally it gets "stuck" and keeps trying to bring up a non-existant DSL connection.

FTTP

For our standard installation, our engineers will:

connect an optical network terminator (ONT) within 1m of the nearest 13amp power socket and up to 10m from where the fibre enters the building
run any external cable needed to reach the nearest suitable fibre entry point.
connect your customer’s router next to the ONT
connect one device – a set-top box, PC, laptop or smartphone. They won’t connect games consoles, Wi-Fi extenders or mesh network devices, dongles or any other devices which are specific to a communications provider. And they must have been connected to the customers’ network previously.

What’s everyone’s experience about the work to get the cable to the house? I have a block paved drive and I’ve just ordered, but I’m concerned.

Not great.... couldn't connect mine as ducting blocked....went away over a week ago and can't seem to get any update as to what's happening...
