Compatibility with netgear router/modem

Hello there,

Should I face any issues if I am planning to upgrade to a netgear xr500/700/1000 router/modem using the dsl rj11 from socket to rj45 Ethernet cable to the netgear? I am on dsl.

Hi @AlexBetty

You cant go from RJ11 to RJ45 like that on a DSL line. You need a modem inbetween & the XR500 doesnt have a modem built in.

The details are the same as per your asus

D7000 V2

V1.0.0.38 and above

@cookiemonsteruk Hi there, hope you've been well and thank you for that information. So I shouldn't face any issues using a rj11 from socket to rj45 cable as the xr700 doesn't have a dsl connection and only a rj45 for internet.

The xr700 is just a router so doesn't have a dsl rj11 socket so requires a seperate adsl/vdsl modem

I am suggesting the netgear d7000 v2 with the above firmware as it is a adsl/vdsl modem router

@cookiemonsteruk I am now choosing between the Asus ac88u and the netgear d7800. I believe both have a dual core 1.4ghz cpu so not so sure on which one to get. Price is not really an issue for me as I just want the best performance.

Personally i would go for the asus so long as its the dsl ac88u and not the rt ac88u.

It is the brand i am more familiar with.

It comes with preconfigured profiles for all isp's . For sky that means selecting sky broadband for your current sky essentials adsl pppoa connection and sky fibre for vdsl dhcp option 61 sky superfast when it arrives.

I am not saying the netgear d7800 doesn't have that functionality just i did research and came up with a blank

I also found out that this Asus router supports Asus' 'game boost' and 'wtfast' which might sound pretty useful for me playing games and I am not sure netgear has a similar feature.

The WTFast intergration on Asus routers is awful and hardly any of the supported games are on there

Wtfast is a subscription service and covers quite a lot off games and platforms i suppose you can try it for a while (don't know minimum term or price . The game boost is an adaptive qos that i believe prioritises all devices attached to the gaming port by ethernet

Turns out that the dsl ac88u only has a 1ghz dual core cpu and the rt version has a 1.4ghz dual core however the netgear d7800 has a 1.4ghz as well. So now I am sort of leaning towards the netgear as I heard the Asus wtfast is basically useless and has a slower cpu.

Yes but that is only for the PC app. It doesnt cover consoles & the router intergration of it only has a handful of outdated games

If you're interested in how the netgear purchase is I am quite disappointed. For some reason it ignores my quality of service settings and still caps above it which is strange. Spoke to some other people and they said there connection had problems using netgear products with it ignoring quality of service. Now I guess I will take a look at the Asus dsl ax82u and see how that goes.
