Fibre BB sloooow WiFi

Hey Folks,

Hope everyone is well?

I'm having issues with painfully slow WiFi! Using the sky router, it states I'm getting 29mbps, which is ok for my area. I don't expect those speeds over WiFi but just loading a webpage takes forever, my wife can't do online banking and the roku stick spends more time with the spinning circle on screen than showing programmes. I've used the "help" guides but to no avail. It's also slow, although not as bad as WiFi, when I use my laptop with an ethernet cable. If I use the laptop on WiFi then it's the same.

Can anyone make any new suggestions? I was on the phone to sky but after 30 mins of the music I decided to try on here.

Is it any better if you stand next to the router? Do you have any sort of boosters or sky q boxes

it makes no difference whether I'm 5 feet or 5 cms, it's crappy all the time! And no, we don't have any boosters or Sky Q.

@RichieW can you post a speed test result run when nothing else is using the link and your hub's connection stats see Find your Sky Broadband router statistics

Seeing those will helpmforum members advise you on what the problem might be.

I have found that WiFi around the home improved when I turned off the WiFi at the hub and used a seperate router. I purchased a second hand Tenda Mesh M3 x2 and for the kind of speeds you are getting should be just fine.

Thanks for that, I have actually got a TP-Link archer ac-2800 somewhere and am thinking about setting that up again.. I haven't got anything that would allow me to set up a mesh though.

At the minute from what i've moderated you are 1 Mbps below your guarantee with possibly 9-12 Mbps extra if the line was running properly

Your pictures show that the line is running a little slower than it should. However its important to note that the speedtests you are conducting are via WiFi which can slow down drastically under different situations. Even if the problem with your external line is fixed this may not translate to any faster speeds in the way that you are testing. Ideally you need to use ethernet

@RichieW Best thing I can advise might be to try splitting the WiFi bands, as i bet your devices are trying to use the 2.4GHz band rather than 5GHz, and judging from the the speedtests it is probably very congested.

Yeah I noticed that too, I'll be putting a call in as "technically" it's below the minimum guaranteed speed.

Thanks for your reply but I did say that I was conducting all of it via my laptop with an Ethernet cable.

I will be setting up my archer ac-2800 at some point this week but in the meantime, can anyone make any further suggestions or offer different advice? I tried calling sky yesterday and cut the call after over 30 mins..

Yeah I'd already thought of that and they are already split. Same results I'm afraid.. Could be a faulty router? I only got this one late November!

Try calling early doors, I had to call them twice about a fortnight ago, both times were about 0830 in the morning (a Thursday & Sunday) - each call lasted no more than 20 minutes...from dialing to hanging up and each time I spoke with a real person (I know, right!) and resolved.

That's my 2 pence worth 😉

@RichieW I remember those 12 hour nights well, 4 on, 4 off. I always enjoyed a large can of ale before hitting the hay about 0730 😄

I'm not one for day work either, especially being a driver!

is there anything I can do or try myself before I call the support number? Oh and is there a good number to try or just stick with this one 0333 759 1547?
