Glass diverting to Amazon Fire

I tried to add a film on ITV 2 to my Playlist. When I came to watch it I was directed to Amazon. I would have had to have paid for it!
why?

It seems to be a bit of a bug. Glass picks up the incorrect link. (I.e the Prime Video link instead of ITV Hub link). One thing to check is if you go into the the movie and scroll down to the tile, you may see a watch on itv hub option / button appear.

An example of this for TV series is if you say Dr Who into glass and go to series 6, it will show the the W listing. However when you select an episode a "watch on bbc iPlayer" button appears as the episode is on both services.

It is hit and miss unfortunately.

Is it definitely available on itv hub, had an example of this the other day where it was broadcast but due to streaming rights itv did t have it in demand so was available via prime or some other paid app.

@elgeecee It's been a big issue for a lot of people, there are various reasons floating around for this, i.e. rights etc.. but at the end of the day if you can add it to the playlist it should play it from the original source, it's crap.

It's one of those issues that need resolving ASAP.

Movies in particular are subject to stringent streaming rights issues. In your case the movie was probably only licenced for broadcast by ITV, not for streaming on ITV Hub, therefore, if you didn't watch it on the live broadcast stream there would be no way to watch it later on Glass other than by paying to view it on whatever other streaming service offered it.

As others have noted, it's a 'feature' of Glass that Sky have not been particularly transparent about.

Somebody asked a question last week re. house wives of something that airs at 5pm everyday on ITVbe, i did some research for them and it turns out that Hayu have the streaming rights but ITV have broadcasting only rights so it never makes it to the hub.

Its utterly frustrating that Sky glass does not have a notification that if you add it to playlist then you better watch live otherwise you cant watch at all.

Agreed. It's catching out a lot of people.

The whole system would be much better and more functional if Sky worked out some form of deal with the channels they stream to allow the actual live broadcast feed to be cloud recorded. That's never going to happen though.

As you say, an on-screen warning or notification when adding to playlist would be helpful, but again is probably unlikely as it will only serve to annoy a lot of customers.

It is the least they can do in my opinion, how else are people supposed to arrange their viewing if they assume something will happen only to find later on it didnt!

This is poor and i do believe that Sky know it. Thinking back to the latest Glass feedback survey they sent out en masse.

Yup, it's very poor, and I'm sure Sky realise that.

Ultimately it is all about money (as ever), and how the change to streaming gives more control to individual services rather than having everything coming via satellite.

Broadcasters & networks want that control back so they can make more money by having consumers pay to stream their content, rather than the consumer recording it to a hard drive.

Glass, as we know, is an aggregator for lots of other providers' content. The Sky EPG gives the illusion that everything on there is available at any time once added to a user's playlist. But of course we also know that's not the case.

Like you say, a simple on-screen pop up when a show/film is added to the playlist which states:

'This content may be chargeable if viewed at a later date' would be helpful.

Or, dare I say it, do we also need the return of on-screen reminders to indicate when a show that's been added to the playlist is about to start so that it can be viewed live (at no charge) rather than having to pay for it on another service?

I agree Reminders on glass seem to becoming more and more relivant expecially with the broadcasting issues.

I totally agree there needs to be some sort of message to prompt the user at point of add like you say "this program can only be viewed live or can be watched later on "Amazon Prime" etc.. etc..

Whether sky see the logistics required to do this necessary is a different story, as they don't appear to be too bothered at the minute about the end users enjoyment/experience.

Slightly off topic but still related to streaming services being behind pay walls.

It makes me think about the HBO max debacle i read about yesterday where its being extended into europe but not the UK or Italy i believe. Potentially due to Sky contracts!!

Paramount+ also needs to come soon as im sure you have seen around these community pages people are becoming restless.

I also think that the Peacock offering in the UK falls way short of what we were expecting.

@Jayboy1990 Paramount+ is a must, i've been waiting for that for a long time, everyday I use glass I am learning new things that I wish I had known about at the start.

I am hardly watching any live TV, i've hardly used the TV guide at all I am not at the point where I am questioning the whole thing, not because of performance, issues etc.. but I am questioning the fact that I am paying £50 a month for a handful of sky content, when I am actually doing most of my viewing via the apps.

Before I would record ITV/BBC etc and hated the apps, but now I have got used to them I find I am using the glass offering less and less, I am at a point I really am unsure what to do.

I agree with both of you.

I watch so little Sky content now that I watch most things via my Apple TV 4K box. I have an HBO Max subscription (via a US iTunes account and VPN) which streams all the HBO stuff at the correct frame rate and movies in Dolby Vision, which look so much better than Sky's compressed versions. Dune and The Matrix Resurrections looked fantastic.

I could get the full US version of Peacock on there too if I wanted, but there's nothing that really interests me.

I would get rid of my Q contract in a heartbeat if it weren't for other family members. The only thing I personally really use is the Ultimate TV Netflix discount - to watch Netflix on the Apple TV box!

@fizzdiscoIf I knew what I know now I would of stuck with AppleTV and brought a new television.

But hey ho I didn't and I'm well over my 31 days.

The bit I'm struggling with is that I am only going to end up saving £25 by ending the subs, as I will have to subscribe to NowTV or something for the rest, with is £9.99 + Boost and pay more for Netflix (13.99) or so.

It's all a bit messy at the minute lol.
