Hi

i have had an issue with my Sky FTTP broadband whereby when I connect my work laptop to the WiFi network, it basically disrupts the internet connection and stops everybody else who is using the network from accessing the internet too. Other devices on the network work ok. I have tried powering adapters and extenders to make it a wired rather than WiFi connection but same issue. My employer has now sent out a third party router for me to try. It's a Hyperoptic but when I plug it in, the internet light doesn't come on. Any ideas?

You would need to contact your employee and the manufacturer to see if the router supports that.

Is your work laptop using a VPN? Its possible the IP addressing schemes for your works VPN is clashing with the IP address scheme of the Sky router.

I believe so - I think this is what's happening and why they're suggesting a different router. I just can't get the new router to connect to the internet so I can't test the theory at the moment.

Not sure what they mean by that but Sky wont have a clue what your talking about if you call and say that to them. If you need to get the router working you need to ask your workplace if the router is compatible with Sky's DHCP Option 61 authentication method.

The ZTE H298N is very old and does not support DHCP Option 61 from the manual information just read and therefore is unlikely to ever work with Sky FTTP.
