superfast broadband do i need an ONT?

im getting superfast broadband soon but never had fiber before, i understand i need to have a ONT box installed in order to connect the hub but i only have a telephone master socket. sky emailed to say i'm being connected remotely and dont need an engineer but if i dont have this ONT box does that mean i wont have internet. will i need to get an engineer out to install one before my go live date?

Most FTTC connection use the existing phone line, it is normally FTTP that needs the ONT (there are some exceptions)

If you are in an area with fttp full fibre they will prefer to offer 80Mbps superfast speeds thru full fibre infrastructure hence the ont

hi,

thanks everyone i've had a search online and from what i can gather superfast broadband is FTTC so means the fibre cable goes to the green cabinet and then the bit from the cabinet to the house is through old copper type wire so i think i dont need an ONT installed to connect the hub as ONT is only needed for FTTP (FIBRE TO THE PREMISES) does anyone know if that's correct? so i should be able to just connect the hub to the phone master socket? i'm guessing that's why sky said it'll be done remotely and i wont need an engineer to come in the house

Enter your full postal address below and post the full table. If wbc fttp is on the list then you will get superfast via fttp. Its part of the move to fibre and the retiring of the copper network

FTTC is as you mention, the extra confusion is that Superfast is available via FTTC and FTTP (if available). Using the link @cookiemonsteruk gave will let you know if FTTP is in your area. Where possible, ISP will utilise the FTTP (even for Superfast packages) over FTTC due to the copper lines being 'switched off' in the coming years.

If you ordered superfast and Sky have said its a remote activation then almost certainly you will be connecting to the telephone socket.
