You definitely dont need a "router" you need something known as a "wifi access point" which acts as a "bridge" from the ethernet to wifi. That functionality is built into every Q TV box.

I have Sky Broadband in my house and now a wired internet connection into my garden room (from the main house) I have connected an Ethernet cable into this socket and all is fine with the connection but I would like WiFi rather than just the wired connection - I wondered what type of router I need, does it have to be Sky?

i have managed to connect my Sky mini box in the garden room by connecting the mini to the main house router via Ethernet and then just plugging it in in the garden room - so we have the TV sorted.

Thanks for the reply - the WiFi is not strong out there at all so perhaps I'm doing something wrong with the mini box, definitely doesn't allow for WiFi to be available at the moment.

@Moggie+Moo that is strange as if it is getting sufficent signal to carry a tv signal from the main box it should have a fast wifi hot spot. Check the Settings Status page on the Minis menu that should have 3 ticks if it dosent use the link beside the cross.

Also try rebooting the hub, main Q box and mini in that order unplugging each box from the mains for 30 seconds and waiting until it has fully restarted before moving to the next. Lastly test the ethernet cable is working by using another device like a laptop as it is possible the mini is not picking up the ethernet at all and using the weak wifi from the house.

Thanks - the mini box couldn't find the WiFi when I initially tried to install in the garden room - so I took it into the living room and wired it into the main router for a few minutes with the Ethernet cable. I was then able to take it back into the garden room and it installed and now works fine with no Ethernet (the sky mini box is not near the ethernet point in the garden room).... I'll check the settings as you've suggested - the Ethernet works fine with my laptop.

Once it's connected via that, it should then broadcast a WiFi signal out there, unless you've turned off the Wi-Fi on the box.
