I am moving to a new flat in another city, and I'm working from home, so I need to have my internet connection set up as soon as possible. When signing up for the service, I was told the activation date would be on the 7th of September, but I just got an email now informing me the activation will be on;ly on the 16th, which will leave me more than a week without Internet and not having any way to work. I can't seem to be able to change this. Is there any way to cancel the service, so I can see with a different provider if I can get a faster activation?

Do you know of it's possible to contact Openreach to bring this date forward? As I'm new to the city, I won't have options to go somewhere else to work.

The ISP can only go with what they are told.

The only other option is either a cafe or other such public WiFI, or see how much a 4G router or dongle may be for a month to tide you over.

Working from home, i'm afraid does not make you any higher priority, and the connection you have taken out is purely a "domestic" one, and is treated as such, quite poorly.

No, Openreach won't accept direct contact from ISP subscribers: it's the ISP which is ordering the wholesale activation service from Openreach, not the individual, and Openreach set the timescale based on their own personnel availability.

If there is, you should be able to log on and buy some airtime. It's not the cheapest but will get you online until your own broadband is up and running.

One of my neighbours is a BT customer and it was useful so I could keep working when my broadband was out for a couple of weeks, 2 years ago. My employer even reimbursed me as well because it was a legitimate business expense.
