We upgraded to fibre in March. All was fine at first but after 2 months or so it became intermittent and would regularly cut out for an hour or so at a time.

Ran all the usual tests, did everything Sky asks of us, even had an engineer visit, then this weekend it finally gave up and has barely worked since.

After multiple calls to Sky, today we received a replacement router (as was initially recommended by the engineer).

I've installed the router as instructed, left it an hour to 'initialise' as recommended and yet it's still dead. What on earth is going on?!

Unfortunately, recommending a new Hub is too often engineer-speak for 'dunno', particularly with transient line faults: it's rarely actually the solution (routers are considerably less prone to failure than people think). I'm afraid you're probably going to have to book another visit: at least Hub issues are now ruled out.
