Bass Issue With Dolby Atmos Movies

It's been 24 hours with sky glass for me, and to be honest I like it.

It was easy to set up, it's easy to use and the picture is on the whole very good.

I do however seem to have a problem when playing Atoms movies.

inhave found that if I turn the volume up beyond 50% the Bass tones tend to rattle. It kind of reminds me of a speaker membrane being loose or damaged. This only seems to happen with Atmos content.

if I watch a non Atmos movie there is not rattle from the speaker and everything sounds fine.

has anyone else experienced this? Does anyone have any thoughts or comments please?

After some more testing found that it's not just listening to Atmos content.

it seems that I very low bass situations the speaker cans handle the sound and it vibrates so much it makes a terrible sound

That's interesting. Thanks for the post. I don't have Sky Glass yet but saw your earlier post asking about the size of the stand on the 65". As you presumably have that now, would you mind telling us what size the stand turned out to be please? Many thanks. C

The stand is 76cm. It appears to be the same for all sizes.

just for your info I will be returning my Glass tomorrow when I speak with sky.

I've given it a good testing with both sound and images on movies, 4k UHD content, Atmos and Sports.

in my honest opinion the TV just isn't up to it. I like the whole Sky Glass setup, but the TV is just average.
These are the issues I have and can't accept:

1. Sound just simply isn't mind blowing. It's good but not brilliant. My old sound bar and separate sub were genuinely better.

2. There is a definite banding going on while watching sports in both UHD and SD. It's as if the TV screen is dirty and shadows are seen during football. It's not so noticeable on other channels due to different colours I suspect. I had similar issues with a brand new LG panel that had to go back.

3. I have a more than adequate fibre broadband at my home, but I have had numerous drop outs during shows. As for the puck despite testing the signal in another room and finding it to be excellent it was terrible. Kept freezing.

inappreciate not everyone may have had the issues that I have, and I'm sure that in time this could be a great product. But for me, I can't put up with such a poor picture while watching sports.

back to my 4 year old standard Samsung 4K 55 inch TV and Sky Q.

That's great feedback. Thanks for taking the time to give it. As you could tell, I was seriously thinking about getting glass but I think it would be wise, having read your post, to give it a little longer so that the teething problems can be ironed out. Good luck with Sky!

My old sound bar and separate sub were genuinely better.

Which can't have come as too much of a surprise? Built in TV speakers are never going to be a match for separate products.

my old sound bar was just a cheap Samsung Bar with a separate sub. It wasn't anything expensive.

despite this it was still better than sky.

The worse this was that the panel display while watching sports was just poor.
It's back to Sky Q for now until I see what sky does as time goes on. I'm sure they will improve and perfect an otherwise great product.

I hope that those who have it enjoy it and don't suffer any of the issues that I had.

@Dlburge I find that the bass boost doesn't really do much, even at 50% volume it's only slightly noticeable. Underwhelmed

Yes I agree. If the bass sound is very low on occasions the speaker housing seems to vibrate and sound like a. Blown speaker.
I'm returning mine. It's just not quite ready yet.

mounted. I just don't see a difference in the bass boost setting.

I like the concept and I like the look of the layout etc.

I'm going back to Sky Q for now and will see how it goes in the next 12 months.

I am on my 2nd replacement so far..

1st one had really bad screen bleed after sending pics to Sky got another delivered following day (1st nov)

How ever now this 2nd while the screen is good now, the speaker has a rattle on the right hand side which sounds like a blown speaker.

Speakers to the left do mo appear to work at all ....

After being with sky for over 19 years this has been the worst experience to date...

Now got to waste another few hours trying to got hold of sky....

Oh that's not good.

Mine was from the centre speaker and it too sounded like a blown speaker. It's possible it could be the housing rattling and not the speaker.

I wasn't prepared to give it a chance. It's just not quite there yet I'm going back to Sky Q.

Update, 3rd one delivered yesterday ....poorly man handled by panther, got them on my ring door bell with ONE person carrying the 65 inch on his own, at one point resting the middle on his head!

Long story short, sound is good on the 3rd one but the picture quality comparison with the 2nd unit I got is night and day (I.e. the one delivered yesterday is shockingly bad compared to the 2nd with broken speaker).

Also have a clusters of dead pixels (I always do screen tests with black then white background looking for issues...and this panel has issues unlike the 2nd one that was replaced with the 3rd one now...

I am waiting for a call back but this experience has been totally gutting,....

I am prepared to give this one more go (4th attempt), when many would not...

Have to say customer services are spot on. All though I will be on my 4th glass tv, showing evidence of the described issues above was a no quibble replacement.

I justvreally do hope this 4th one due to be delivered tomorrow will be the final time...

Unbelievable. The quality control on Glass is just abysmal.

Far too many corners have been cut to enable Sky to mass produce these things.

So its actually the up firing speakers and the sub that is faulty, now I am on my 4th device I can see and hear how the Sky Glass should perform - unfortunately I have not experience both together at the same time (either sound issues or screen issues).
Waiting for a call back as Sky are now out of stock on the 65inch ceramic white units 😞

I do think the units are packed with features that when it works (yet to expereince the whole package) should be fantastic...

Will give it another go due to wife wanting to stick with this.... if it was left up to me would of cancelled on replacement #3!

Quality control with TP Visions really needs to be reviewd by Sky as this is not on at all...

We are returning our 55" because of two issues one being sound and lack of bass. Ours sounded very tinny but I'm wondering now if the speaker had issues? Other issue is regional news not being available until end of next year!

Any advice on how to fix this issue? Currently watching Harry Potter and every couple mins a crackle occurs during someone talking. The higher I turn the volume the louder the crackle becomes. I assume its a speaker issue.
