Sky q into a sky glass outright set?

Could I potentially buy the sky glass set outright and just plug my sky q box into it via hdmi? I know you're only allowed one subscription so buying it outright isnt a subscription...

Does seem pointless yes but at least I could wait to see how the SOIP service is performing for others before I take a contract out?

No as they won't sell it to you as a standalone unit

Why would buying a set outright be on my account? Surely im purchasing a piece of hardware in full.

Sky Glass is not just the TV it is a package including the streaming subscription that replaces your satellite subscription

My understanding is you will be able to buy the Sky Glass TV outright but potentially have to sign up to Sky Ultimate TV pack for 31 days. (Note: as soom as your Sky Glass is activated, your original Sky Q subscription will be terminated and you will have to return you Sky Q equipment).

You free to cancel your Sky Ultimate TV subscription by giving 31 days notice. Once the service has ended you will no longer be a Sky Glass customer. You should then be able to sign up to Sky Q again and hook up the Sky Q box via HDMI.

I was just answering the OP's question.

Maybe you want a new TV and fancy the Sky Glass with integrated soundbar and choice the colours. But you also want to have a recordings stored locally that you can keep "forever" and have access to a much larger set of channels.

No, you will also have to take out a SKy Glass subscription, which then cancels yourt Sky Q subs.

I'd be interested to see how this would work in practice. Been thinking about it myself. But to access your other ports, such as hdmi1 etc, you need the sky glass home screen, would be interesting to see how the home screen would work without a subscription. There's also things like tv settings which are also only accessed via the glass home screen. I'd be tempted to keep the tv but switch back to sky q (mainly cos the wife loves her pink tv, but also loves sky q!!), if i could know that you can still actually switch hdmi ports and access settings without a glass sub.

Note also there's a bit in the credit agreement that if you don't maintain a SOIP (Sky over IP) subscription, then the credit agreement would be cancelled and you would be liable to pay the outstanding amount.

(although that seems like an 'unfair terms and condition' contract to me - given the SOIP subscription is just a 1 month contract and they can change the terms or cost etc as and when they please - how could you be compelled to maintain a contract at a point in time in the future that you today don't have visibility of?).

@Laing1 @TimmyBGood does the bit in bold give us an answer to whether a tv sub is required for duration of the loan as we're been discussing

Although it does seem a bit unreasonable you have the choice of accepting the agreement or not getting glass.

I feel sorry for someone who loses their job or circumstances change and they want to reduce their outgoings and unless they have read the T&Cs (Everyone should but many don't) they could suddenly get an unexpected charge they can't pay.

So basically if you cancel the sky contract through glass, you then have to pay for the tv in full straight away. Interesting.

That's pretty much how I always thought it would be: it made no sense for Sky to be offering a long-term interest free loan for hardware which didn't get them a subscription income.

However, if it's not made clear enough at the point of sale, the FSA is going to be very unhappy...

The odd thing is that the statement about terminating credit agreement if you cancel Sky subscription TV services was* in the 3 page thing you scroll through (that I read!) and have to accept, but *ISNT* referred to in the Credit Agreement contract available if you look in Messages on MySky.

*It definitely was referred to, as 'SOIP' stood out to me given it was a term they didnt even define.

all i want to do is buy the tv upfront and keep sky q , but as usual they (SKY) wont accomdate a simple request, im not getting rid of sky q as i dont want to be without a TV if there are internet problems,
