There's probably next to no profit margin on the hardware: conceivably it's loss-making. Sky has always been about subscription income, not sales.

It has benefits, you have no limit to the number of programmes you add to the playlist at any time (Try recording 10+ programmes at 10pm on satellite), upgrading equipment does not mean you lose your recordings as they are in the cloud, weather does not affect viewing, no dish for birds to perch on and kill the signal, that's just a few of the top of my head

@MoultonMark I was in the same position as you on a heavily discounted sky Q package and at face value Sky Glass was much more expensive for what is in essence the same TV experience.

I rang Sky up today and after a bit of haggling and consolidation of certain products I was able to justify the move to Glass. One of the reasons was that I have Sky Sports on Q, it's the biggest add on by far. However, although I was paying less per month on Q than Glass, I was stuck on an 18 month contract with it. I only use sports for F1 and for 4/5 months of the year F1 isn't on so with Glass I can get rid of sports and save between £100-125 per year over my current Q deal which comes close to balancing it out. Also, as Netflix basic comes incorporated into Sky Ultimate (it's cheaper than my current Sky Signature without Netflix) I only have to pay £8 month for Netflix premium when it costs £13.99 separately now.

It's still more expensive but not as much as first thought and I've had to factor in that as a new product I am having to pay a premium for it. The fact I can get rid of the sky dish and cables is also a bonus.

From a cost perspective it depends on the q discounts as sky have indicated they are not offering discounts in glass at least initially. I would wait a few weeks and do your research, seeing other users real world experience. For me i dont need 4k in every room and like the q hot spots. I also dont like being tied to a provider or not having a backup to broadband but each persons requirements will be very different. Good luck with your deliberations.

I have said for years that there's no incentive to be a long time customer of Sky. I am a Sky VIP customer, what do you get for that? Answer - absolutely nothing, just an opportunity to spend more, if you want to.
