Upgrade or downgrade?

I currently have a LG 65 SM8500 (SM8600) TV and the LG SN7CY soundbar.

Would I gain anything by getting the large Glass TV picture and sound wise, or would I be better off keeping what I have?

I have read through this forum and to be honest it has made my head hurt, and for the life of me can't seem to find the answer if my setup is better or worse than the Sky Glass.

Picture: You would get better SDR screen brightness but, on the whole, you'd be moving sideways and not really going forward or backwards.

Sound: Clear improvement over what you currently have from your TV.

@cwmparc if I have picked up,the right model your TV is a 2019 model and offers broadly the same features as the Glass TV. Your TV is edge lit with a IPS panel which in theory is beaten by the Glass which has a FALD VA panel but wherher that gives a better picture in practice is debatable. There are no killer advantage on the picture in my opinion so if you like what you get now stick with it. In terms of audio it is also a wash on specs the speakers in the Glass are good for a TV but probably much of a muchness to your sound bar.

Your TV runs LGs TVOS so supports the same apps as Glass so if you have a Q box currently the range of programming is similar. The one advantage of Glass is potentially the combined search faciility but there are downsides as well in the new playlist feature over local recording fewer channels etc. Your TV and Q are mature systems in contrast Glass is very new and still quite buggy.

Only you can make the decision so I would get to see the Glass either at one of Sky's demo sites - some of the ones in regional shopping centres have a demo room - or if you know someone with one you can go and look at so much the better. Personally I wouldn't bother changing with such a new TV setup unless you need another TV.

@d2h @Chrisee Many thanks for your replies. If there is not much difference I may as well cancel my order for Glass, and see how it compares in few months or so.
