Synology Router - User Name and Password

Transferred from Plusnet to Sky this morning and I need the Sky User Name and Password for my Synology router.

I have spent over an hour going through endless and useless automated phone system and surfing various sites. Best I have found so far is to temporarily connect the sky router and use WireShark to lift the details I need but it seems like a lot of work. I am already wishing I stayed with Plusnet.

Can anyone help?

Are you on sky essentials or sky superfast ? Are you in Ireland or the uk?

Sky uses sky mer option 61 instead of the more usual pppoe of other isp's. Do you know if synology offers that?

I have to nip out for a couple of hours so will check when I get back.

I can say that I have a separate Draytek 130 VDSL Modem as the Synology RT2600AC is router only.

What exact model of synology do you have ?

If it supports client identifier it will be in the format

12345678abcd@skydsl|78abcd

Where the first 12 characters are the synology mac address and the last 6 are the last 6 of the same. Whilst not strictly required at least this makes sure your credentials are unique

You will have to set up draytek as modem bridge and then follow the instructions below :-

The Draytek and RT2600AC were all working fine with Plusnet, do I have to set them up differently due to Sky?

Next issue I have is I cant get into my RT2600AC because I have 2FA set up and without an internet connection the codes dont work any more.

@midnightlightning as explained above Sky use a different authentication standard from Plusnet so need to be configured to support DHCP option 61 rather than PPOE and the log on string already posted. The modem should not need reconfiguration as it should be in modem bridge mode already. Changing isp with third party kit is rarely plug and play.

Not sure what you do about the router as never seen one you cannot access without being online - tends to defeat the purpose of being a router when you stop and think about it. Suppose you could hang it off the Sky hub temporarily as that will allow a LAN connection at least.

Sorted and working now, many thanks for your help.

I ended up having to factory reset my Synolgy Router to get around 2FA not working - really shouldn't have to do that but soft reset didnt work. My last config backup was a year ago - hopefully by the time I have rebuilt the VPN server, the firewall rules, the port forwarding, the MAC address safe acces list etc etc I will have learned to take more frequent backups!

Once I had access to the router changing to Option 61 took a minute :).
