All4 subscription update needed??

Whenever I try to download and watch something on All 4 a message comes up saying I do not have the required subscription.... even if it's SD not HD... I didn't think I needed a subscription as I don't on my ipad or for other catch up tv channels.... can anyone help please? Thank you

Are you watching catchup material ( originally broadcast in the last month) or box sets material (broadcast more than a month ago )

I wonder if the problem is that the programmes you are watching are more than a month old - and you don't have a box sets subscription?

What programme ? series and episode ?

It's only Catch Up, and freely accessible, if it aired in the last 31 days. Anything else is a box set. There's no such thing as a Catch Up channel or a non-Catch Up channel.

Box sets are free on the All4 app on other devices because the content is advertiser-funded there. It's subscription-funded on Sky.

I've tried both. I've been watching Derry Girls on my ipad and went to watch it on tv and it wouldn't let me. Then last night I tried to watch Celebrity SAS which had only aired the previous night but that also had the same error message....

Hi @Tori76

When you have been watching successfully on your IPad, have you been using the Sky Go app (part of your Sky subscription) or All4 (nothing to do with Sky ?)

Hi @Tori76

That does explain it then. The All4 app is just owned by channel 4 and is free when used outside of Sky.

As soon as you go inside the Sky environment you are stuck with Sky rules - which generally are

under a month = catchup and included with all

subscriptions

over a month = Box sets for which you need a box sets subscription

If you have a smart TV with Apps on it, you should be able to watch the All4 app on your TV and watch whatever is on it

I've had a similar issue - watched the Great British Bake Off (broadcast last Tuesday) yesterday evening on SkyQ, and went to watch it again today (as it's in my recordings list), and it's now saying I need a subscription to watch it.

Any idea why that might be? Is that an error from Sky?

Is it definitely the latest series you selected?

Also, are you trying to watch a download in HD without the HD pack?

It is a download in HD, and we don't have the HD pack. However it's the same download that we watched last night without any problems!

Hi @RicAll

There are a few HD channels you can view without the HD pack. These include Sky Sports (if you subscribe to sports, BBC 2, ITV1 and Channel 4

What I can't confirm are the broadcast rules on for how long after broadcast these can be viewed on catchup or how long the HD recordings can be viewed but my guess is that this will be why you could view them initially but not now

@Chloe-W22 may have better knowledge on this if she is around

Go into menu, settings, set up, preferences, along to "on demand default format" and change HD to SD. It should work.

I had same problem and spoke to a lovely Sky rep in Bluewater. He said that my settings must be on HD and I don't have the HD package!! Been trying for months to watch OD4 etc without paying!! Lol

Works great now!!
