Since disabling QuickStart+ we have been able to use 10-bit but must make sure that the TV is switched on first. There has also been one incident of the Xbox Series X causing a blank screen when reverting back to the dashboard from a HDR game. Could be unrelated but might also confirm that LG have some HDMI handshake issues.

As I said perhaps with Sky Q now supporting HDR this issue might become more common so hopefully a firmware update can resolve it.

Sky Q 2160p 10-bit No Signal issue with LG OLED65C8PLA

I've posted about this before but now that Sky Q has started to support HDR the original solution of just using the 8-bit setting, since there was no advantage to 10-bit at the time, isn't an option now if we want HDR.

The issue is that while I can get HDR working with 2160p 10-bit on our OLED65C8PLA it is not "stable". We can watch hours and hours of HDR content, we watched the three Back to the Future films in UHD HDR for example, the next time the TV turns on it shows "no signal" again. I have tried different HDMI cables and HDMI ports on the TV but the same issue persists.

The TV is working fine with 10-bit output from our Xbox Series X (and the Xbox One X we used before it) so I'm confident that the TV is working. Since this happens when we turn the TV and Sky Q box off and then go back later and turn them on again that this is a HDMI handshake issue. I can sometimes work around the issue by making sure the TV is on before the Sky Q box but that defeats the convenience of just pressing the "home" button on the Sky Q remote (and having to remember not to do that).

The last time I posted it was decided that it was most likely a firmware issue (either on the LG or the Sky Q box) and that some LG TVs had previously had firmware updates to address this issue. I'm hoping that with the launch of HDR on Sky Q that more and more people will face similar issues and hopefully this will get the attention it deserves from LG and/or Sky.

@DatabaseJase

The only thing I can see about your tv is that it only has HDMI 2.0 ports, for TVs to fully accept HDR data from a source it needs 2.0a or higher. Which is probably why it struggles to get a signal to begin with. Software on sky is usually up to date; but do a software update anyway and once the update is complete, power off the sky box at the mains for a few minutes and then on again to make sure the software completes. Then check your model on LG website to see if the software matches your tv, if not download it off the website and USB it to your tv and update it. The HDMI cable sky provides is perfectly fine, unless it's broken. You don't need expensive cables, as cheap ones are perfectly fine as well.

Thanks for the reply @Graymon.

After doing some reading I understand that HDMI 2.0a was launched around 2015 and that not all manufacturers decided to specifically state the "a". I also read that 2.0a was about HDR pass-through and might even have been a software and not a hardware change. Given our TV is a 2018 set I'd expect it to be HDMI 2.0a but that LG decided not to specifically call it out. All just theory though so I appreciate you calling that out.

I've checked software on the LG and 05.20.02 is the latest version which is already installed. I read elsewhere about disabling "Quick Start+" on the LG which has now been done. While it is still necessary to make sure the TV is on first (and on the right HDMI port), before turning on the Sky Q box, it is at least possible to recover from the "no signal" by turning everything off and then back on in the correct order (previously we had to wait for the Sky Q box to automatically revert to 1080 to get the signal back).

Thanks again for the reply.

I am also having this issue with 10bit after recently turning it on because of the HDR content on sky. I have disabled QuickStart+ and turn my TV on the normal way now by just pressing the Sky button and everything turns on like normal however sometimes it comes up on screen when i turn it on that it has reverted the sky settings back to 1080i and sometimes it comes up with a blue screen saying that screen does not support HDCP and no way to shift screen unless on and off again. Anyway around that?

I have the same issues also with an LG OLED TV. Coupled with frequent sound drop outs it is driving me mad. Doesnt happen when using Apps direct from the TV to the sound system or DVD etc. Changed HDMI cables. Both are fairly recent occurances and are getting worse. Cant contract Sky. Makes me wonder why I am paying all this money.

Unfortunately not a fix but the workaround of turning the TV on first (after also disabling QuickStart+) and then the Sky Q box is working 95% of the time. When it doesn't work turning both off and repeating the process fixes the other 5%.

Not ideal and frustrating especially when exiting apps (Disney+, Netflix, etc.) sometimes also causes HDMI issues resulting in a blank screen is another side affect. Again turning off and on again resolves it.

Same issue here, I had also commented several times on the other thread about switching to 8bit resovled the issue, but like said above, now we have HDR we need 10bit (at least thats my understanding).

I dont even need to be watching a HD or UHD conetent on my Sky Q (Silver 3rd gen) box, all of a sudden (possibly up to 2 times a day but sometime once a week) the TV starts flickering I then get the message up saying Doesnt support HDCP.

I am pretty sure its not the TV as I also have an XBox Series X connected to it set to 4k and 10bit and it hasnt once had the issue. I have also connected the SkyQ box using the XBox fairly decent HDML cable using the same HDMI port as the XBox uses and still the same issue.

In case it is of relevance, I use a Sony AV amp which is connected to the TV via HDMI using the ARC feature (ie no other devices plug directly into the Amp)

What version sky box are you using? I am wondering if it is certain versions. Be intrested if a few others could comment too. V1 box is the box with a power brick. V2 without and v3 which is the neswest box, possibly only been out a year.

I have the v2 box so that completly rules that having an impact then. Its so annoying. I may get a HDfury arcana and plug that in between TV and sonos arc soundbar to see if that makes a difference. Was thinking of getting this anyway to solve lip-sync issues on SkyQ. Anyone got the arcana and still having issues?

Its a real pain as Sky will say its the TV and LG say its Sky, the fact that I have multiple devices all connected to the LG TV (XBox Series X, Virgin V6, NVidia Shield, Roku 4K, Sky Q 2TB v1/v3) and only the Sky box does this, surely means its a Sky issue, yet several of us have been moaning about this for a very long time. I am guessing that more people dont notice it as usually if they setup the TV for UHD and let the Sky box find the correct number of bits (8/10) but then the issue occurs, more often than not my Sky Q boxes reset themselves back to 1080p, and unless you are watching a lot of UHD content you wouldnt know and I could be wrong but I am guessing most people just restart the TV/Sky box and dont realise they are not using UHD.
