Moving to Sky Talk from a fully Unbundled Provider

Currently I am with TalkTalk (Phone and Broadband) and I wish to move to Sky (Talk and BB). Sky inform me that they could not transfer my number because it is not BT listed. From the way the operator spoke I assumed that this was an issue between Talk Talk and BT.

I called TalkTakl and gave them hell. However during the call I was looking on the internet for clues as to why I was having so much trouble and finally I realised this is a Sky issue and not a Talk Talk issue. Though Sky can port some numbers from TT (as long as they are not fully LLU) they cannot do the same for any LLU number. This is plain despite several misleading answers by Sky Knowledge Advisors on several posts I have read here.

Eventually, I came across this:

http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/talk/switching-to-sky-talk/switching-from-an-unbundled-provider/

So in short Sky cannot port from a fully unbundled service (which I have with Talk Talk). The joke of it is that on the above page the advice is:

"If you are switching from an unbundled provider, you may need to order a new Sky phone line. "

as if this is not a problem for anyone. Well I have had the same number for over 10 years and use it for some business calls too, as does my wife. Switching numbers is simply NOT an option.

So, despite how poor Talk Talk are, I now find myself in a position where I cannot switch from them to my preferred supplier as my preferred supplier.

The Ofcom site states that your current provider must allow your number to be switched (if you are remaining at the same address) but there is no requirement for the new supplier to accept the request to keep the same number.

It seems that I have two options:

1. Stay with Talk Talk

2. Switch to BT and then at some point switch to Sky.

Why do Sky only seem to want to take business from BT and not from any other operator? Surely in these days when more and more numbers are unbundled there is a business justification to support the easy switching of numbers between any two operators, bundled or not?

Rant over.

Re: Moving to Sky Talk from a fully Unbundled Provider

I am in the process of switching from talktalk to sky.  They have told me I can keep the same number, no engineer will be needed and it is due to go live 2 weeks and 1 day from my point of order.

Sky CS are useless and have no idea as to what they are talking about, try emailing executive complaints and see what they offer you (cant remember the address, but just google it)

Good luck

Re: Moving to Sky Talk from a fully Unbundled Provider

I think it all depends on whether your line is a fully unbundled TT line or not. It appears some are and some are not. Those that are not are still recorded by BT as a line and therefore can be switched. Those that are cannot. I would though appreciate any steer on this from any Sky super user out there that has an opinion on this.

Re: Moving to Sky Talk from a fully Unbundled Provider

:robotsad: so what shall you do if you signed upto talktalk to find out that

1: they didnt notify me that they werent gonna send an engineer round

2: that the ntl line has never had broadband and that my line is faulty

3: they are charging me for a service that i have not received and over charging me for the wrong subscription !!!!!

And not forgetting that sky have helped me step by step on how to fix this and do not over charge you or make you ring 0845 numbers after they say its free to contact them when you sign up ???

Dont go with talktalk the are lying, robbing non customer focused providers !!!!!
