Resolving "System Fault" on screen message

Symptoms

On Screen Message - "System Fault" when trying to record, live pause or access the Sky+ Planner.

Diagnosis

When the On Screen Message appears, press Select and your Sky box should restart, if the message continues to appear after the box restarts, try the following. 

 

Solution

WARNING: A FULL SYSTEM RESET SHOULD ONLY BE ATTEMPTED AS A LAST RESORT AS IT WILL RESULT IN THE LOSS OF ALL RECORDINGS/REMINDERS ON YOUR SKY BOX.

  

Full System reset – Sky+HD boxes

 

Using the Sky remote:

 

  1. Press Services. Options will be displayed.
  2. Press the right arrow to highlight Settings menu and press Select. Picture settings
  3. Press 0, 1 and select. Setup menu displays.
  4. Use left or right arrow to highlight System Reset and press Select.
  5. The warning on screen message (OSM) This option will delete all existing and planned recordings and purchases. Press Select.
  6. OSM Housekeeping please wait displays and the recording / playback circle on the front panel may spin around.
  7. The Sky box will reboot itself and continue to display a red or amber standby light.
  8. The lights on the front panel will illuminate as Full System Reset begins.
  9. Wait 2 - 4 minutes after red / amber standby light displays, then press Sky to switch the Sky box on. The green light

 

Full System reset – Sky+ boxes

 

  1. Press services on your Sky remote control.
  2. Use the up/down arrows to highlight System Setup, then press select.
  3. You will see the System Setup menu with Picture Settings highlighted.
  4. Press 0 (zero), 1 then select to access the Installer Setup menu (this screen is not listed on the System Setup menu).
  5. Use the up/down arrows to highlight Full System Reset and press select. You will see a message, "This option will delete all reminders."
  6. Press select to confirm. Your TV screen will go blank and your Sky+ box will switch itself off.
  7. Wait for three minutes, then press sky to switch your Sky+ box back on.
