Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

1 to supply the TV you are watching it on. Why would you expect more?

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

It has one HDMI out and one HDMI in (for future use).

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

I want to use 1 for my TV and was hoping there was a second output to provide a signal to my Slingbox

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

The official way to get extra HDMI outputs from Sky Q is to have a Sky Q mini that you can attach your slingbox to or the unofficial way that people today use is to purchase a powered HDMI splitter box.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

I realised that but since you can only attach 2 of those I will be using them in the kitchen and bedroom.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

Not really sure why you can't attach as many minis as you like. Sky could still limit their use to 2 at a time.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

We don't yet know if Sky will allow more than 2 minis with only two allowed to be active at any one time.

Good spot @Annie+UK.

Just in case you look at any photos, there are actually 2 HDMI ports on the back of the Sky Q Silver. However the second is HDMI In.

Please don't ask what the HDMI In port is going to be used for as this information wasn't made known at the launch. From memory they said that it was reserved for future development.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

I think a second HDMi out that is audio only for Amps would be better.

Unfortunately they've already built the product and the second port is HDMI In.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

I know it can't be changed but I think it would be more useful unless it gets agreed with other content producers etc. The only useful thing about the HDMI in maybe that you can stream content from it.

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

@Annie+UK I see problems ahead if they follow that route as with SkyGo Extra.Smiley Sad

Still a victim of bureaucracy!

Re: Sky Q Silver HDMI outputs

This is confusing because Sky's own fact sheet states the following:

Physical connections

• 2x F-connectors (Satellite in 12V, 300mA)

• 2x USB (USB 2.0, max 500mA per port) – for future use

• 2x HDMI – HDMI Out (HDMI 1.4b output with HDCP 1.2 – will be updated after launch to support Ultra HD)

• HDMI In (HDMI 1.4 input (YUV & RGB) with HDCP 1.2) – for future use

• Optical S/PIDF (Digital Audio) • 1x 10/100 Mb/s Ethernet RJ45 port

• Mains (Mains input 230V 45W) Wireless connectivity

• Works dual band on 2.4GHz and 5GHz concurrently

• 2.4GHz 801.11n is 2x2 MIMO – Back compatible with 802.11 b/g

• 5GHz 801.11ac is 3x3 MIMO – Back compatible with 802.11n

• Supports Powerline AV1.1 – only compatible with other Sky devices. Not available at launch

• Bluetooth 4.0 LE support Core system

• 2TB Hard Disk Drive, 1.7TB for customer use. Supporting up to 350 hours of HD recordings

• Ability to record four channels while watching a fifth

• Ability to support simultaneous viewing on two tablets using the Sky Q app

• Ability to support simultaneous viewing on two Sky Q Mini boxes Visual

• 4:3, 16:9 aspect ratio support

• Video resolution supported: – 1080p, 1080i, 720p, 576p – 2160p to be added in future update Audio

• Digital audio optical S/PDIF connector

• Dolby Digital support, over HDMI and Optical

• Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) compliant video and audio decoding

• Audio decoding with sampling rates of 32, 44.1 or 48 kHz Satellite receiver and security

• Full Band tuner 290-2340MHz

• DVB-S/S2 demodulation and error correction

• Digital Video Broadcasting (DVB) compliant video and audio decoding

• Power source available for LNB of 300mA @12V DC Power consumption/Power saving features

• Total Energy Consumption in line with Voluntary Industry Agreement for Complex STBs Sky Q Silver specifications B

This seems to indicate 2 x HDMI out and 1 x HDMI in. I think it is a perfectly reasonable expectation to think that the main box would be able to output to more than 1 TV without the need for a mini box as this is a feature that Sky has supported for as long as I can remember with the RF out socket and IO link they sell on their own website. So a second HDMI out port would have seemed perfect for supporting a second TV without the expense of another mini. I plan on buying the Sky Q silver with 2 mini boxes. Would have been nice to put one of the boxes in my childrens bedroom but I guess it will have to go in the kitchen as that gets a lot of use via the RF out capability of my current 2tb SKY+ HD box. I know you can have up to 4 mini boxes per household but would rather not stump up another £99.
