reconditioned or new box?

Hi,

I was promised a brand new sky + HD box from sky due to ongoing issues with my old box. The 'engineer' came this morning with a white and black sky+hd box which has sellotape where the usual seal should be. Also there was no manual in the box and that the box itself was in clear wrapping. The box itself is an AMSTRAD DRX890-R and the box cardboard has no mention of Amstrad. I believe its a reconditioned box even though we were absolutely guaranteed a new one.

Is there a way to tell in the system details or any other way. Also the remote although looks new it has badly marked lines on underside so I would think its a 'second'.

Can someone advise.

Re: reconditioned or new box?

If you suspect it a recondition one ring but you sat it had no manual all manuals shoulb be in a sealed bag i think so if it wasent there it prolly a recondition one i think sky are not allow to give you a new box unless told to or its on the job sheet because all boxes are allocated to certain jobs the sky man has to do  that day to aviod there being extras so people cant steal them if they feel like it

at least thats what a a friend told me all boxes are accounted for new or old with depends on whats written down on job sheet

Re: reconditioned or new box?

There's no way of telling from the System Details, although there may be dated repair or other stickers underneath the box.  It doesn't sound like a new box from what you say, especially as it arrived in a cardboard box, unmarked.  Is it performing OK?

Re: reconditioned or new box?

The box it came in has SKY+HD on the outside, 250gb etc etc, says its made in Romania?!?! My last PACE box came in a coloured box with 'seal' not sellotape over top/side.

I was guaranteed a new box. Any advice on the model of AMSTRAD that I received, usually a sign of age.

Cheers.

Would hope that some SKY moderator would assist here but usually no response.

Re: reconditioned or new box?

Black/white Sky+HD boxes are what they come in nowadays.  That's no guaranteee, of course, that they are new, especially as the seal is broken, and the box has obviously been used elsewhere.  And yes, the 'R' model is indeed made in Romania ( how comforting:smileysad: ).

Re: reconditioned or new box?

i currently have the same box upgrading it to a 1tb as my amstrad 300gb is starting to show show some strange behaviour. lock ups part recording somrtmes even failing to record via button on the remote unless i do a planner rebuild sound dropouts which are all cured when i restart the box then bang it happens again i think i must of done 5 planner trebuilds in the last month

back to your issue if not sealed recondition then no manual even worse free service calls usually get you a recondtioned if you were told that a new one would be provided then thats not good but if its working ok and you got a free service the price of a service call is 65 a new box if you were to pay to have a new one is 199..99

Re: reconditioned or new box?

Hi,

Not sure what you mean by free service, I came back to sky after 6 months on month to month contract, the old pace box started to freeze badly and was promised a new box. Based on someones experience this item might have the same issue shortly , ho ho.

Also the remote is new, but has lines on the base of it akin to a wifi signal on an ipod, someone mention Romania, ooooooh well, back to square one.

Whats the free service thing though, was never offered a deal to get 1TB box, is this box 500gb or 250gb, it says 250gb but have read that its 250gb for anytime + which you need their broadband and 250gb for recording.

Cheers again

Re: reconditioned or new box?

did you not ask the bloke for a new box when he came to fit you should of at least asked even if he turn round and said no at least you would have something to take up with the customer services team given the fact you say they said you could have a brand new box you could of rung them while he was there

Re: reconditioned or new box?

a free service call is when the bloke comes out for free usually reserved for sky protect insurance payer or someone who has a very good reason for needing it only offered in extreme cases

the 1 tb box has 1.5tb of space 1tb  for rcording stuff to planner and 500gb for anytime or anytime plus

anytime automatcly gives you acess to extra programming thru sky sat signal anytime plus give you acces thru broadband eith by etherrnet cable or sky wireless connector which are both free but anyime plus depends on compatible box if you have sky broaband unlimted only and requires activation by sky or go to  sky.com/anytimeplus

Re: reconditioned or new box?

the fitter said it was a brand new box, but what does that mean.............anyways.............

looking at photos on other websites the box it came in is what they send them in now unless its a 1TB box which is coloured so I am now hopeful.

Does the box have 500gb or 250gb, it says 250gb on outside but i have read its actually 500gb with 250gb for personal use? Any ideas

[ Edited ]

cheers Shakey see you answered the space issue, cross messages and yeah got free service then, probably cause we are using their 3D package which is the 'DOGS <Removed>', makes other channels look boring..........
