Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

As part of our bigger picture campaign, were always at looking of ways of going greener, therefore we have looked at how we inform customers on how to use their Sky+HD or Sky Digiboxes when they are installed. We have therefore taken the decision to remove the equipment manuals from new installations and also self install boxes.

You can now download a copy of the STB manual on Sky.com within the help centre. After clicking on TV, then on Sky+ HD, Quick links are located on the screen to download a copy of the STB manual to your PC. Alternatively you can use the quick links at the top of this page.

Should you require a hard copy of the manual, you can request this by writing to the following freepost address so a copy can be mailed out.

FREEPOST RLUT-GCLR-LBXK

Please detail what manual you require along with your address details.

Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

Hi there

I have just updated to Sky+HD, from Sky+, and I have a little problem that I'm hoping someone can help me with. In the kitchen, I have a small under-shelf TV (Analog) that I connected, under the floor by cable, somehow to the Sky+ box and it would only show what we were watching on Sky. It was mainly used while cooking tea and so on.

But now when I connect it how I think it was, I cannot see anything. So what I would really like to know is what the RF connectors at the back of the box are for.

The one on the left, looking at the back, is obviously RF In. I expect that is for digital TV from the external arial? But what is the difference between the two RF Out connectors? Is it possible to get an Analog TV signal on a certain channel that coincides with what you are watching on Sky?

This worked so well with the Sky+ box that I'm a bit surprised that it doesn't work with the new Sky+HD box?

Perhaps someone knows a better way to do what I want?

Thanks

Taking your last point first, it works just the same for Sky+HD.

Yes, the aerial (or RF) in is for the external TV aerial. The only difference between RF1 and RF2 out is that RF2 output has a 9v power supply which you can switch on via the Sky box software. It's used for magic eye connections etc. If you don't have a magic eye you can use either RF1 or RF2 for your connection to the kitchen and leave the power supply switched off.

The most likely reason for it not working, is that the the signal from the Sky box on RF1 and 2 is on a different channel than it was for your Sky+ box. If you haven't changed it, it will be on channel 68 on the Sky+HD box. You need to retune your TV to channel 68 to pick up the signal. It channel 68 gives you a poor picture on your kitchen TV you can change the ouput channel on your Sky box to anything between channels 21 and 68 - you'll have to re-tune your tv accordingly.

I wrote to address quoted over two (2) weeks ago.   No manual or acknowledgment.

Is there an email address?

Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

Is it recent installs that include no manual?

I purchased a new HD box around 11th March and it still had a manual

Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

Hi PrimalSpore,

This change was made recently, there may still be some stock of Set Top Boxes that have been in storage which still contain a manual.

Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

[ Edited ]

Thank you Robert and PrimalSpore for your prompt replies.

Installation of my Amstrad HD box on 9th March.   Came without manual.   So, upon reading post re obtaining manuals, I wrote to address quoted over two weeks ago and have not received either manual or any acknowledgment of request.   If there is an e-mail address or telephone number I can hasten this.   Unless you, Robert, can be so kind as to do this for me:smileyhappy:

Edit:  Sorry for my vague post.   I thought I'd quoted post re availability of manuals.

@PrimalSpore - Glad you had manual with box.   Lucky you.

Re: Sky Set Top Box Manuals

Hi all

I also wrote a letter to the above address but have not received a reply or acknowledgement of any kind.

But I did download a pdf copy using the links above, which seems to be fine. Although I did try and print it out one day and although my printer (a Canon MP500) has a Duplex facility, it printed all the even pages upsidedown, which was a bit annoying. I haven't had time yet to work out if that was due to the pdf layout somehow, or to do with a setting on my PC/Printer.

But, generally speaking, it isn't too difficult to use the Sky+HD box on a day to day basis, so I haven't actually had to consult my downloaded manual yet.

In my case, no matter what I buy, I like to have a User Manual of some sort. Even if I never use it. And it helps to keep me active by going through 50 odd years of manuals and throwing out those where the device has broken or whatever. :smileywink:

I would love a user manual but those links don't seem to work for me.
