Sky+ HD box slow to respond to remote and lagging

Have had my sky+HD box for over 4 years and the box is slow to respond to the handset or will lag and freeze and then catch up with it self.  Replaced batteries in hand set and re set box several times but nothing works.  Any ideas on what to do or can I get a new box from sky for free?

Firstly try a reboot by switching off the box, unplugging so no power and switch back on, wait a few minutes and switch on again. You can also try a planner rebuild as detailed here
