Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

[ Edited ]

Sky is now starting to block websites they don't want you to visit, if you like to download, reconsider a different fibre provider. Bloody sky, force a useless email layout on us, now they control what sites we can use. [REMOVED] who is paying for this, the customer!!! Look after them??

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

I'm going to assume you're reffering to the blocking of The Pirate Bay ?

Sky and ALL  UK ISP's have been forced to block TPB by the high court

Actually Sky don't block websites, it was forced to by a court order to stop access.  Just like other ISP's have done.

You can hardly blame Sky for acting by what the law says.

Plus its easy to access thepiratebay just by searching google for a link, so hardly any big deal really.

As for the email, yeah its annoying, but not as bad as it could be.

Customers who try and access Pirate Bay will find that their access is blocked from yesterday. Find out why customers can no longer access Pirate Bay: http://www.sky.com/helpcentre/broadband/protecting-copyright

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

Assume is all you can do!

You'd be wrong but what the heck. I have no interest in the Pirate Bay. I spent nearly an hour a week or so ago trying to access a site and failed. I've since found out that the site is being blocked by SKY. I've tried accessing another site but again without success. Do I know if SKY is blocking it? Not at this point I don't, which is pretty darn poor since my query search was "sites blocked by SKY". The obvious answer would be an easily accessible list, but oh no! Not for this organisation. Someone thinks I want some gibberish about parental controls. This is not my 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd disappointment at the hands of SKY. I hope they won't miss my £60+ a month.

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

sky only block websites that they have been ordered to by a court order such as priate bay, or sites with child porn on.  no other sites are blocked

Sky have only received court orders to block two websites, and it makes it clear when it receives a court order, and provides the list itself, obviously its a small list as only two sites are on it.

Sky also blocks websites on the Internet Watch Foundation database, which generally are only sites that contain child pornography

Apart from by court order or the IWF list, Sky does not block sites

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

[ Edited ]

Just had it confirmed to me via a web chat with Sky tech support that they have blocked a gaming forum I used up until a couple of weeks ago, has absolutely nothing to do with pirate bay whatsoever but blocked by Sky...  Would not surprise me at all to find they have messed up blocking tpb and blocked a ton of other sites too....

Yugandhar: Can you please help with the Website name that you are trying use?
You: http://failheap-challenge.com/
You: it is a forum for people who play an online game called Eve online
You: eve online is a game where you fly a spaceship and shoot other people! :smileyvery-happy:
Yugandhar: Great!
Yugandhar: Please stay with me for 2 minutes while I look into this information to help you better.
You: in this game, you can play as a "space pirate" so there lots of posts about "piracy" i really hope that is not why it has been blocked! :smileytongue:
Yugandhar: Thank you for your patience.
Yugandhar: I see that this Website is blocked from Sky as it is flagged 'Piracy Website'.
You: ok....
You: it is not a "piracy" website though....
Yugandhar: According to the BPI - the body that represents the British Recorded Music Industry, this Website is considered as the Piracy Website.
Yugandhar: All the Pirate Bay sites have been told to block by all the Internet Service Providers by the Court orders.
Yugandhar: Hence, this is Website is blocked from Sky as well.
You: i understand about pirate bay but this has nothing to do with pirate bay
Yugandhar: This Website is registered under Pirate Bay.
Yugandhar: If you have any queries about the Website, you can also contact the authorities of that particular Website.
Yugandhar: The BPI has been successful in obtaining a Court order for the blocking of these Websites.
Yugandhar: You can also find this information on the Sky.com Website.

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

[ Edited ]

I was shown a thread about this on the forum (i actually own and administrate http://failheap-challenge.com) and i would like to request someone from Sky to reach me in order to fix this issue, there is an awful lot of members of our community that are customers of Sky and frankly i find this rather amusing.

I assume you can see my e-mail via my profile so please get in touch to me since i'd like to get this rectified~

Yours,
EntroX

Re: Sky Now Blocking Websites?????

The information giving by the live chat agent is incorrect, Sky was only ordered to block one pirate bay website by a court order and only blocked the one.

It did not block the website you are mentioning, I am on Sky and can access that website fine, which means its not Sky that has blocked it.
